I had a similar problem two weeks ago - got to work only to smell petrol, checked the plastic connectors, found a leak, and decided to wait till later to chance a ride to BMW (only one agentin HK - the nice BMW people!). HOWEVER, after a cold start, the pressure of the pump thing ma jig ruptured what was already broken and petrol went everywhere. I had to get the bike towed to BMW.
When I spoke to BMW HK they told me that there were aware of this 'issue' and would replace the connectors (two) with metal ones. Whilst not as fancy as them there ones that have been posted, they are much sturdier than the standard plastic ones. BMW charged nothing for the labour and nothing for the replacements! However, I had two tyres replaced, the leaking fork oil seals replaced and the 50,000 km service and annual check done at the same time which cost a fair bit - most of it labour! DOH
!
My point is that BMW must have their own 'metal part', no? Hong Kong only has one authorised BMW dealer / agent and that themselves, so it must be so?
Cheers,
Nick
