Sorry if its been asked before my mate has just bought a zumo 660 for he's gs triple black, is there a socket of some sort under the beak that he can plug it into or does he run the lead under the tank to the battery any info would be appreciated.

There is a power source under the beak which can be used to power your 660. You will need the appropriate power wire to connect to it which you will get at NN or even your BMW dealer

Its at the back of the beak from memory, lower headstock area, comes as standard with a thin plastic cover which lifts off.

think the lead required is a canbus lead, its a square plug, my satnat had been modified already.

can try take a photo later if youre still unsure.

What's the benefit of using the socket rather than running the power lead on the sat nav straight to the battery?

The canbus lead is effectively switched power so goes on and off with the ignition. Direct to the battery will power the cradle permanently which some feel can cause premature failure (it did with mine) of the cradle.

It's managed by the CanBus then, is ignition switched so won't run down your battery.

On later GS's the plug has moved slightly and is now just at the bottom rear of the oil cooler.

There's an excellent thread on here about making a CanBus cable, which with minor soldering skills and a bit of heat shrink wrap should take about 10 minutes to do.

It's the best option imho.
