I am of to Florida at the end of May and was wondering if I can get a cheap basic map to upload to the quest.

I am doing a fair amount of driving and thought it would make life a bit easier.

Would this ,if poss, be covered by the atlantic base map :nenau

Cheers

World Map

The Garmin World Map will give you basic mapping of America. It isn't unit serial number specific so anyone on here could do you a copy.
I used it last year and it's fine but you do miss the autorouting function in big cities.

Keep your eye on Ebay (I got the entire USA for around £65) but...... even with the European Quest with 243MB capacity - once you include dense areas of USA (that's the roads, not the populace ;) ) - you don't get a whole lot loaded. I loaded a huge area from New Orleans up in a big loop to Detroit, but NY/Tri-state area takes up a lot more.

Two choices:

Buy the USA maps for the Quest if it will handle the desired area (or you are going to upgrade to a 2610 or similar at a later date.

Buy a PDA-type sat-nav over there with the maps included (should be about $250??)

(I would look to the future and buy the maps for Garmin)

MetroGuide USA is not locked to a device, so you could try to pick up a copy of that (e.g. on eBay). It's a little out of date but will definitely show you where you are, and what direction you need to be going! It also has a lot more detail than the WorldMap.

Alternatively, when I was last in the US, some of the electronics stores were sellig older (and the latest) versions of CitySelect for pretty cheap, so you could keep an eye out for these.

Some eBay examples:
V6 currently $11.50
V4 $11
V6 $40

Remember, these would not have the latest mapping, and you might find them cheaper elsewhere..

Actually, I just compared my MetroGuide (version 2.0 (very old)) to the WorldMap and the level of detail is comparable.

Hi all,

Just want to say a big thanks for all the advice and to those of you that have offered me a copy of World Map.

Really appreciate it,
