I have got a long weekend from the 28th -31st of this month free. I have been wanting to do a bit of a trip over to some of the ww1 battle site's. After searching I am a bit overwhelmed as to what there is to see, never the less I have come up with a plan (below). From all those that have done some of the site's, is what I am planning feasible in the time I have given. If it was just me going by myself then it would not be an issue but I would like to post it in the open invites.

Itinerary
Ferry from Harwich (£130) Thursday 27th of October 23.15,

Friday
Arrive hook holland 07.45
Ride to Ypres 1pm. Set up camp, warm up, have a walk round Ypres get some local info.

Saturday
Do a tour of the battlefields and anything else that is worth a visit.

Sunday
Pack up camp ride down to the canadian memorial at vimy, Ride on towards Amens, camp have a walk about.

Monday
Do the battlefields, museums or general site's of interest's. I am having trouble finding anything pacific to do (to much information to take in). Ride home anyway taking a ferry or more likely the tunnel.

Any thoughts would be welcome or suggestions as to what to visit. Nothing is set in stone.

All this will be done on a road bike so no major dirt tracks will be tackled, the occasion farm lane ok.

Cheers

Ypres (Ieper); can recommend Camping Jeugdstadion, stayed last week, we were the only tents though :) Don't miss 'Last Post' ceremony at 8pm at the Menin Gate. Sanctuary Wood Museum was interesting. Tyne Cott cemetery too

If you are in the general area of the Somme (Amiens etc) the Newfoundland regiment memorial at Beaumont Hamel is worth a visit. B-H is about 30 miles from Amiens, through Albert. The Newfoundland regt were almost wiped out in the assault, and after the war the Canadian govt purchased the site and it has been kept pretty much as it was when the war ended. being able to walk around through the bomb craters helps bring home the futility of it all
