No problem doing this myself for the first time on this bike, but am I right in thinking that you simply tap out the pin using a suitable drift, once you've removed the clip?

On my Suzukis you unscrew it using a 4mm allen driver, but the beemer pin has nothing like that, and spinning it has no effect.

For what it's worth, I got 16,000 miles out of the original pads and they're not worn quite evenly, but then the new pads aren't even either.

Dead easy, pull out the old pads and give the caliper a good clean with a tooth brush and WD40. Grease the back of the pads with copper slip

Yes Muppix, you remove the spring clip with a small pair of pliers, then drift out the pin and remove the pads. Ensure the caliper is free to float, retract the piston after cleaning around the skirt with an old toothbrush and some brake cleaner, then refit the new pads. Reassembly is the reverse of removal.

Thanks everybody, much appreciated! A new set of pads are now installed and I'd love to go out for a ride, but the roads have been freshly salted and it snowed during the night as well, so I might give that one a miss.

Been told by a BMW engineer, if you push the pistons back too quickly you can knacker the diaphragms in the ABS pump, if you have one that is, and if you do say goodbye to £1300. :blast
