Having just done the best part of 2 years riading using a shoei synchrotec 11, I've just had the opportunity to try an Arai Astro R...

Couldn't believe how much quiter the helmet was!

Going to be in the market for a new lid soon.. seemed to have narrowed it down to :

Arai Astro R

Shoei XR1000 or Shoei X Spirit ( reckon the x spirit is going to cost too much)

Anyone have any views on the quietest of the bunch?

Cheers Bryn :beerjug:

I find my XR-1000 to be quite noisy even with good foam earplugs in. I reckon its due to not having a big enough neck roll under the ears.

On the plus side, it is very light and comfy and the visor system is good.

Now I am looking for a new helmet and quietness is high up the tick list. PB

According to Ride magazine the quietest helmet on the market is the Schuberth S1.

I haven't tried it, but it's very well regarded.

:thumb Thanks for the replies folks.. there's a dealer in leicester that allows you a test ride with a new helmet before purchase ;)

Thats refreshingly trusting isn't it!

May try that....

I have a Shuberth S1 which is the best and quietest helmet I have ever had but the ventilation isnt very good (especially behind a 1200adv screen)
I also have a Shoei XR1000 Which is the noisiest shoei helmet I have ever had but the ventilation is excellent.

If I had a choice of 1 I would always have the Shuberth. Brilliant!! :thumb

I have a Arai Corsair RX-7, which is a great helmet, great ventilation, very light, but its so noisy even with good ear plugs. So I looked real hard and asked many people for recommendations. But at the end of the day we are all different with different setups on our bikes, so not being able to try the various recommended helmets out before buying, I decided to go for the BM System 5.

I am very pleased with it, its much, much quieter than my Arai, although with the front lower vent on the chin bar open its still makes a fair amount of noise. But with this vent shut its really good and the ventilation through the brow vent is good as well. :thumb

All I can say is that its suits me, but may not for others.

i have the schuberth s1 and its amazingly quiet. the ventilation is apalling tho, in town feel like i am being slowly choked, have to use the schuberth c2

I've used a Shoei XR 1000 for 7 (ish) months, I fitted the whisper strip kit, this reduced the noise by a country mile instantly. If it was not for the fear of dropping it, I would have spent the extra cash on the X-Spirit.
