R100 GS problem any ideas?

Hi I was wondering if any forum members could assist. My bike is a German import and in excellent condition. It has had the carbs balanced and has had end float recently adjusted and a general service. The bike always starts however if you run it on choke it is extremely sluggish with very poor acceleration even when the choke goes in. It does improve however after 3-4 miles - any ideas welcome?

In my experience they don't need choke for long, have you tried knocking the choke off once you start moving?

Yes -guess you on the Bing carbs? Choke is just for starting-maybe knock it back to half choke if it's really cold weather, but once on the move, kill the choke.

I only start mine on choke and would never ride with it on CHOKE as the clue is in the name 'CHOKE'. The 3-4 miles for it to improve, is the engine clearing its self after it has CHOKED UP, this practice is causing eruptible damage to the engine if you persist with riding with the choke on. TRY THIS have you got cruise control? If so use control to lift the revs just after starting so it does not stall to warm the engine and then release before riding off.

START with choke turn off warm engine on the Throttle untill the bike ticks over with out help from your right hand

Just make sure the choke is going off at the carbs ,I had a sticky lever on the carb and one was not opening properly when I pushed the lever back in,also sticky cables can do this .

As it says in the handbook................
two settings on your choke lever - one (full on ) is for starting. The second notch is for riding while the engine is still cold until it warms up.
