R100GS Sidestand

No he wants to loan it on the single proviso that you make the pattern (but improved) part available to your mates :D
I don't mind doing that of course, if I can have some made at a workable price :)

It just seems simpler to buy it off Rob if he doesn't need it any more.

Cheers,
Michel

Not on a GS, but on my R100RS. Same principle would apply.

Stand I made from a GPZ stand (£4 off ebay). Works a treat, welded to the existing footpeg.

Am I the only one who has trouble with this stand?

My legs aren't long enough to put (& hold it) down whilst getting off the bike so I have to get off with the stand up. Not too difficult, but I would prefer to be able to push it down and for it to stay down, so I can get off easily with the bike on the stand.
Has anyone done any mods to make it easier to put it down whilst sitting on the bike and/or any mods for it to stay down without the weight of the bike holding it there?

Many thanks
Ray

I know the feelin'...same problem here so I took the bike up to my local dealer and my service manager fabricated a wire loop that is similar to the loop on the 1100 RT's for putting the stand down. I was up there last night trying it out and it fills the bill nicely. We welded it to the stock stand and it sits right between the footpeg and the shifter and is about 1/4" away from the exhaust collector.....won't have to worry about laying my boot against the collector now either. Anyhow, I can put my toe on it and push it all the way forward and then set the bike down with no difficulty what so ever. We are now looking at making a 1-1/2 " aluminum fat foot so the bike won't lean so far over, which will also make it easier to put on the side stand. I won't be picking up the bike until next weekend, but if anyone is interested, I post pictures of it when finished.

I'd be interested to see the finished product please Gezerbike.

I'll post pics when I get it back next week................

Completed project

Well, I finally got time to run up to my dealer to pick up my bike. Between bad weather and not having the time, we finally put together some decent weather and the time to go get it. As the pics show, Guy made a metal hoop similar to that on the RT's. It sits about 3/8" away from the exhaust but does not interfer with shifting

They had one of their customers, who owns a machine shop, make uo the 1-1/2" Aluminum sidestand foot. This makes it easier to get the stand down as I don't have to lean it as far over

Finally, this pics shows that the bike leans over a lot less when on the side stand. This puts more of the weight of the bike back on the suspension and not on the sidestand, which most folks consider a weak link

I'm not real sure how I like the look of the Aluminum foot but it really works pretty well and the man who made it did a super job. The botom line is that the sidestand in now something I can use.

This superb sidestand came with my R80G/S..but if anyone knows it's make etc...it will fit a later GS.

Bolts to the rear engine mounting and underneath the footpeg holder

Simple to flick down and it stays down !!

How long is the stand in itself ?
I'll be able to get one fom a brekers yard

Vendome's Photos

Thanks for the excellent photos Vendome, that really looks the simplest solution to the problem.
Re the Foot extension I fitted a similar device to my 1150GS Adventure which leaned too far over without an extension - I made mine from a solid block of white polystyrene/polypropylene (or something similar) and sprayed it black so that it was less obvious.
Cheers

PS
I like the look of the garage, and the dog!!
