Here's the problem, the exterior of the silencer is fine...four or five years left in it. Having removed it, when I lifted it over, it rattled like a bastard. Shook the silencer and it's obvious the internals have broken their fixings as bits of carbonised metal chunks are falling out. There's one big chunk still in there - I can hear it.
What are my options... I don't want to shell out on a bloody expensive replacement - I've already bought a new shocker this year.
Can I get the silencer cut open, remove the crap and weld it back up? (Would it be excessively noisy then?)
Is this all a waste of time?
Shall I jam a cut off broom stick up the hole to mash the broken bit in place (I might leave the broomstick in then)?
Shall I run it with the bits inside rattling?
Shall I just give up and watch Breaking Bad again.
Do I have to buy a new one?

Any clue?

Its absolutely not a waste of time .
It Absolutely will save you money .
Only , If you get the right man to do it .
I have a preffered welder , and he is a meticulious chap , he made such a good job
it took me a thorough examination to find where he cut and shut .
The Inners come loose at the welds , probably cos the Rod/wire used is a lesser quality
that the frame .
Mine was a little nosier , but not to bad.

Give er a Lash

Cheers matey - I'll get my man to have a look!

Had mine cut open and repaired in 2004. It has just started to rattle again so i have got to find another decent welder again. Certainly worth the effort:thumb2

Watch Breaking bad again. ride the bike some more, watch Game of Thrones ride the bike even more. Then when that last bit has broken up, whip the silencer off and shake the bits out. :thumb2

PS. It is probably worth checking the collector for loose stuff aswell

All done... my mate cut it open, pulled out a massive L shaped bit of coked up crap and welded it back together... thanks for the advice tho.... the whole exhaust is off at the moment, I'll put it all back together after I've watched The World's fastest Indian again!
