Got my lovely shiny new R100R home and immediately I've got a problem with the indicators. If its sitting without the engine running they work fine but when I'm riding it they keep self cancelling. Sometimes after a single flash, or sometimes after about 6 or 8. Seems to be worse on the LHS.

Anybody had this problem? I've checked the fuses and the connections to the relay as I thought it might be a vibrating connector, but no joy yet.

The battery voltage could be higher, but I've given it a good charge and it doesn't seem to have made any difference.

All suggestions gratefully received!
Pete

What year is the bike ??

Something in the dark corners at the back of my mind says that the later ones had self-cancelling indicators - but I may be completely mistaken.

Just as well to get the obvious solutions out of the way first :D :D

Bob, I've not heard of any airheads with self canceling turn signals? FWIW Tibs I've not had this issue on my 1993 R100R. Does it do this with the ignition switch on and not running as well?

I would check the bike whilst engines running and whilst yer turning the bars side to side - Int shed of course just thinkig it will be a dodgy connection or maybe broken but touching (if yer follow) wire

Had exactly the same problem on my R100PD , had a spare bike so started swapping parts, changed the flasher unit but still doing the same, started changing the items listed one at a time ,as I suspected interference from the ignition/charging system, started with the coil, trigger module, diode board, alternator but none made any difference:nenau, finally changed the HT Leads and problem dissappeared:JB Hope this may be of some help

OK thanks for all that.
Its a '92 model, but I'm sure it hasn't got self cancelling indicators (well it has, obviously, but I mean its not meant to).
I just took it for a quick ride up the road and it behaved perfectly. Grr...
I will go and have a bit of a waggle of the bars in a moment though in case I've missed something there.
Interesting about the HT leads though, they're not kosher BM ones so they're worth investigating. I'd swap them with the leads off of the R80/7 except that Sid's looking after it for a few weeks until I sell my GS to make some space in the garage.
Right, a quick walk and then a bit of a waggle....

The obvious answer is you bought a dog.:(

I'll take it off your hands for £1,000 cash. Can't say fairer then that.:D

Pretey sure the 1200GS was the firts to have self canceling indicators. BW must have been quite self concius about it too. They didn't even mention it in the hand book when I bought mine in 05. Thought I was goin mad, thinking I'd forgotten to turn then on  :nenau

Yup, as my brains pretty shaky at best, I assumed it was me. I wonder how many times I was turning right with no signal showing. Scary thought: must pay more attention to the idiot lights, they're there for people like me!
Still no progress so far so I guess I'm going to cough up and try the new HT leads idea.
Brilliant bike though, apart from that. Pure joy to ride.

I've got an issue with my rear rh indicator, it stops working every so often, its very random, it is ' as new' on all the contacts, its had a few new bulbs, new main loom and new indicator loom, i guess its a bad contact between the bulb and the holder, but i can't see why, it all looks good and has plenty of spring in the contacts:nenau

I think i might just buy another indicator, its a real PIA

Good luck with your's:thumb2

Big portion of raisin pie for Colin, finally laid my hands on some HT leads today and, bingo, problem solved!
Cheers for that ,:beerjug:

I have a '93 GS which is now on its 4th K-series type flasher unit. I replaced the orginal with 2 x s/h spares from motorworks which failed so quickly I gave in and bought a new one.

Similar symptoms of intermittent operation. I extended life on one unit by re-soldering a dry joint on the pcb.

I had a very similar experience with my PD. I changed the flasher unit too, to no avail.

I figured it was some sort of interference issue. Problem went away when I renewed the fat red wire between the starter and the diode board.

The older K's also had self cancelling indicators. I had a similar problem with my '94 K1100RS indicators that it took a while to find. Turned out there was a short in the Hazard switch on the dash - quick bit of rewiring and soldering and problem cured. Don't know if that's relevant in this case but might help.
