I have just had a very expensive insight of the R1150GS, I had been more in Fact highly delighted with my 1100, The beast for almost 6 years, when I suddenly I went and bought a 1150GS.

What a BIG MISTAKE !!

I could not live with the buffering, and tomorrow will collect my old faithful from the dealer, having parted with over a £1000 for a 2 week HIRE.

The old ones are the best, almost 600 miles in a day with only a sore bum.

Any one else found they had made the same mistake?.

The Bike itself was fantastic, but my neck coundn't take it, even tried 3 screens.

Gary "The Beast" Simon.

Gary,

I've ridden the 1150 and didn't get any buffeting at all. I guess it must be a size thing, I'm 5' 10" and have never had any turbulance on my 1100 or on a 1150.

Apart from the buffeting what did you think of the 1150 compared to your 1100?

me too

It was the single biggest put off for me. Went back to dealer and bought the R1150R. Much better. Got an old g/s for the mud.

I'm 6ft 2 inches, with a knacked neck, I must admit I didn't take it out for long enough before I bought it.

Everything else I have have bought, I have had it for a day, not an hour and half.

Must remember next time, the Head should rule the Heart!!

Thanks for the comments.

Gary.

A set of tobinators did it for me (R1150GS, 6'5") - the buffeting was putting me off long journeys and I was having to think about a different lid to cut down the noise. Now all sorted. Tobinators are cheap enough to warrant a try-out (£35 quid?) before a £1,000 wallet sting.

Too Late, Boys,

did the change this morning, nice clean air on my Baby 1100GS, "The Beast".;)

I will now keep her til she or me falls over and dies!!!.

Thanks for all the comments, Glad everyone is talking.

Five ten must be the ideal height, I dont notice any excess buffeting either.
As for the comparison btween 1100-1150. After getting my 1150, and before the lovely Stef ( she really is a stunning 6ft blonde, dont believe the "big bald and tattood description"), bought my 1100, I had a chance to compare them.
1150 was much slower and less responsive, albeit only having a couple of thousand miles on it, it might mature with age.
1150 beak looks a bit better, in my opinion.
1150 feels heavier.
Details like 1100 footrest brackets look better, and where the subframe is attatched to the gearbox by a nice lug( I know they are known to break) instead of a flattened tube seems to have an air of quality about it.
1100 exhaust downtubes are a nice bit of twistywork, 1150 pipes...boring.
Overall, build quality seemed better on 1100

1150 /1100

Also 5'10'' & didn't note any significant buffeting when swapped from 1100 to 1150, however after reading about Tobinators decided to try 'em anyway. Didn't seem to make much difference despite trying lots of positions out (for the screen!!!) so after a few weeks removed Tobinators - boy did I put 'em back on again quick. I hadn't realised how much difference they made till they weren't there. Day I initially fitted them was a quite blustery day & I dont think they do make that much difference in those conditions but on quieter days I now find myself travelling 10 mph faster than I realise I am on the open roads.

Agree the 1100 was a lot "crisper" but also surged MUCH more than 1150 & did feel more chuckable on twisties, but thats a bit subjective. Overall 1150 an improvement IMHO over 1100 except for build quality, but both bloody good bikes & you takes your pick.;)

I'm 5'10'' and I had my name on the first 1150 out of BVM, so much buffetting it blurs my vision at 85-90 where I spend most of the time. Glad I've still got my old donkey 11, run rings around an 1150, in every way. happy bunny me:D

I guess I am so lucky!!
5'5", adventure screen and little or no buffetting. I love being me!!

GaryM - tell me you're kidding, pleeeezz???

5'5" and you're happy with the 1150?

( I struggle to swing me leg over a 650 at 5'9" [but then I do have a knackered back] - tell me me (quickly) you have a 39" inside leg?? pleeez??!!)
:D
