Hi everyone what a good site. I have just purchased an R1100GS 1996 ABS and got rid of an old KTM.

I have heard from owner that it has aproblems with front brake master cyclinder every 12 months. The brake lever goes in but does not come back but there is pressure in brake system. The brakes will not bleed when in this condition and fit a new one and all is fine for another 12 months.

He only used it now and again so could this be a fault due to lack of use or have any of you had the same problem.

Never heard similar problems.
Might be lack of use. The piston gets stuck.
Also change brake fluids every two year.

My 1100 ...

... had also been stood when i bought it; the brake fluid attracts water which settles in the master cylinder and if undisturbed (by use) can etch a channel in the bottom of the cylinder and cause pressure loss. Could be what your seller was experiencing.

Thanks all will put it down to lack of use, will change brake pipe as pointed out in first thread, many thanks. John :beerjug:
