Has anyone fitted these to newer 1150’s, was wandering if a pair of these big valve heads gas flowed would add some power probably in conjunction with high comp pistons, anyone any experience? Paul young ?

They have three exhaust studs and in different positions to the 1150 exhaust two studs.

Yeah I realise that but that can be overcome, I have a full laser race system on mine and also a banged about spare system I picked up cheap that’s a bit battered but the front pipe connection to head part is ok so could get a local exhaust company to swap out the mount off a 3 stud onto it, might improve things much like the Kenny Augustine exhaust accelerators were meant to. Any other issues you can think of steptoe, what’s your thoughts. I’ve had my 1150gs 11 years and have prob removed 20kg of weight off it, with a bit more to come.

I’ve not looked into that, but I have a set of R1100S heads tucked away somewhere in the garage. They have the same difference to the exhaust studs so I have a matching header pipe and a link pipe to replace the cat and keep the Remus Ti that I currently run. My problem was that the heads were cheap because they had no cams fitted… But that’s an easy fix as long as you have eBay and spare dosh 😁👍

Would love some decent cams. I’ve put RT cams in a couple years ago, I’m keeping an eye out for 1200s cams but they are rare. I bought some big valve heads for 30 quid each again no cams or carriers so I’ll take a closer look at them when they come.

There’s a surprise you’ve got some in your garage 😜

I’ve got the remaining parts from an 1100s I had the engine out of for a kit car,
Also a complete 1200 rt that was dumped on me a few years ago.( crank gone)
You can have the lot for a decent drink .
Pm if of interest

Sorry can’t figure out how to pm. Do you have 1100s cams by any chance

@Paul G (BHT) I can never seem to find the link for the subscriber page

Perhaps one to drop into the "Quick Links" above ??

My thinking is the 93 r1100rs was 90hp, then the r1100r that was later released was 80hp, same motor same compression so guessing that 10hp was the head, prob camshaft and fueling etc. the r1100s being 99hp had a higher compression again probably camshaft improvements and air intake/ fueling improvements so a 1150gs with 12:1 high compressions pistons, gas flowed big valve heads r1100s cams maybe flowed throttle body’s has got to break the 100hp mark surely, I ride my bike like a super moto, I’m not touring Europe, I do a few thousand miles a year ( I also have a 300 engined honda Grom ) and I love tinkering, would love a supercharged one but 5k price and they look messy.

What’s the difference in torque output between them?

I’m wary of going for power (bhp) at the expense of torque, since the GS’ USP is its flexibility and grunt out of corners. Power is a means to extending top speed but I never get near that in the UK, whereas torque is a means to faster acceleration, and that’s something I use a lot…😊

And creating an extra 10-15% power on oilheads is going to cost whatever... I started a saying to myself and when an instructor that if you want more just go down narrower roads... With lots of corners of course... GS country...👍

94 nm for the r and 91nm for the rs, I have the r1100gs diff on mine which gave me extra go everywhere except absolutely top end, one of the best mods I did on bike.

I went the other way, mainly because I do get the bike flat out at the IOMTT and was frustrated by constantly hitting the rev limiter in 5th gear.

6th is the high ‘E’ overdrive and it would slow down when I hooked top gear, so I used Anton Largiader’s tool to experiment with different gearbox/FD combinations and found the R1100S FD went well with the GS gearbox. It’s a higher ratio so extends each gear slightly = less gear changing needed and 5th will go right to the limiter without hitting it. K&N filter, PC3, R1100S inlet tubes, K1200R fuel pressure regulator and flow-matched 1200 injectors all made a difference to input side and the y-piece and Remus took care of the output side. The main difference these days tends to be down to rear tyre choice as I’ve fitted alloys - 180 or 190 widths and 50 or 55 profiles can make a difference.

Yeah I’ve got alloys with the 5.5 rear 180/55 pr4’s I did have a 180/60 supercorsa on it, it was a taller tyre and really improved the tip in into a corner, really noticed it going down to the 55, miss it, I need to adjust my torque arm a little, with the diff the 6th gear is now actually usable, no longer a overdrive, the 3:1 ratio is great it’s got some go to it, kept up with a mt09 in a drag race from the lights, I have been thinking of putting the 1150 diff back on now it has a bit more poke but ultimately it rides so nice as it is. I’ve got latest gemi chip in mine but was wandering if the pc3 with wide band would be better especially with potential upcoming mods, how do you rate the pc3

I have the torque arm as short as it will go, which straightens the shaft alignment from the front UJ’s back, raises the rear, steepens the steering angle and puts more weight on the front.

The PC3 is great and I like the flexibility to adjust it via a laptop. Dynojet got in touch after I did the IOM video in 2004, explaining that the PC3 was being launched for the BMWs and asking if they could borrow my GS to set up the fuelling maps. The improvements were significant but especially with throttle response - a 10% improvement in power at 40% throttle, just where you want it for overtakes. 20yrs later and it’s still fitted and working well, so not bad for a freebie.

I’m enjoying following your thoughts/plans 😊👍

Please could someone post a link to that remarkable vid of Paul embarrassing sports bikes on the IOM, in case daverimm19 hasn't seen it?
