Bit of a strange situation here.

I currently have four bikes all R1100S, a 2003, a pair of 2004 and a 2005. Two of them are insured for the road and two are roadworthy but on SORN. This year I want to take one off the insurance, and swap it for another, then I plan to sell the two with highest miles and keep the two which I use for work (one daily user and one as backup).

Well, I have got onto the renewal team at Bennetts and going through the details for swapping the bike the (extremely good and professional guy called Paolo) mentioned 1080cc and since I had the V5c open in front of me I absently said "no, 1130cc" which is what is on the V5c. Of course that is the CC for the 1150 engine and it's now opened up a can of worms because the R1100S doesn't come in 1150 version.

Whilst he was going through stuff on his system I quickly checked the V5c for the other three bikes and wouldn't you know it, the two bikes I want to insure this year BOTH have the wrong CC listed. Very strangely, those two incorrect documents are also missing data from 7 other fields that the two correct bikes have. I've attached redacted scans of the four documents here. Bikes 1 and 2 are correct and bikes 3 and 4 (the ones I want to insure) are not.

So right now I am waiting for Bikesure to hear back from Aviva to see if they will accept the incorrect engine CC as a clerical error and put me on cover, and I've also been advised to stop riding bike 4 which is currently on cover because the CC on file is different to that shown on the V5C. This isn't a huge problem for me currently as I have bike 2 on cover also which is showing the correct CC.

What's also noticable is that the two bikes I want to insure for the next year 93 and 4) are missing all the info for:

Number of seats
Vehicle category
Max net power
Mass in service
Power/weight ratio
Noise
Engine speed
Noise (drive-by)

What are the odds of this happening twice at one time for the same person? I've got until the end of the month for this to sort itself out which is when the renewal is due.

In 2002 I bought an early 1999 R1150GS on a T plate , so early that the DVLA did not have the 1150 on their system and it was registered as an R1100GS and I never had any issues with Insurers in the 9 years I owned and insured it , my second R1150GS which I bought 3 years ago is also a very early one also on a T plate and and same build date as my first bike and again it is also registered on the V5C document as an R1100GS .

Again I just informed the insurer that the bike is a 1999 BMW R1150 GS and that is accepted .

On the first bike I spoke to our DVLA liaison officer who spoke on my behalf to DVLA who said if I wanted they would simply amend the details with no issue.

I cannot see why an insurance brokers agent would be looking at cubic capacity and making a big deal of the discrepancy on the V5C which is no doubt down to a clerical error or as likely a DVLA computer glitch (having done a couple of PNC courses they can be more common than people would expect ) at the time of registration

Its the other way around !

The 1130 is incorrect It is an 1150 Engine

R1100 Were all 1085cc Even the 2004 on Boxercup replica Last version produced

Yes that's my plan, to send in the V5c with the correction and a covering letter.

TBH the guy from bennets was thoroghly competent. he spent more than an hour on the phone with me and actually sent an email to the insurer and dictated it to me before sending. I said that I wasn't worried about being uninsured because of a clerical error given that the engine IS actually a 1085 and he said that he agreed but it was better to flag it up right now than have the policy scrutinised if there happened to be a claim and suffer a potential headache later. I can't say that I disagree with him though I would have preferred if he had gone ahead and processed my change of vehicle on the policy right now rather than waiting for the underwriter to respond, because it would bring me closer to my renewal date and might potentially put the premium up.

Send in pictures of the engine number ( and if it has cubic capacity on the block that as well ) , also send a pic of the VIN number and VIN plate on the bikes as well so they have all of the information in one hit

I have not yet found the CC on the engine if anyone knows where to look I will do just that.

I wish I hadn't shredded the old V5c I got from the seller I would have been interested to see what was on it. I think that rather than a simple clerical error there must be some sort of systemic issue because both of the bikes which have the wrong CC listed are also missing the same other info exactly.

it will be down to a fuck up when they were first registered .
does the original selling dealer exist still ?
or talk to BMW UK , they should have records. or failing them BMW DE.
