Wikkus,

are you getting any noise associated with the flat spot / hesitation - could it be pinking (pre-detonation)??

Mike:confused:

Definately not right.......my ADv is nice and smooth all the way up the range......(I'm only in Kent Rik if you want to arrange a swap-ride)

Can't help thinking that if the TB's have been balanced and so on, it sounds very much like a bit of crap in the fuel line somewhere......and with the filter in the tank that will be the last thing a dealer would want to check.

It does sound like it's not getting enough fuel & a blocked filter, as Fanum suggested, could be the culprit.

Try changing it yourself but don't buy the filter from the dealer who supplied the bike. Failing that, get another dealer to swap filters, I've seen quotes of £40.00?

Or you could get stroppy with them & DEMAND that they change the filter as a precaution as the bike could be deemed "unsafe to ride" & "unfit for its intended purpose" if it's continually stalling - this is a course of action I'd be inclined to take, after all, what is a warranty for? You should not be expected to clock another 2k miles until it's looked at!

I changed mine last week. PITA job though.

Good luck

Steve

Mike O posted about fuel filters a while back.....it's apparently common over the other side of the pond to reposition a new in-line filter outside the tank so that it can be checked/changed easily.......

Just an aside, but the more i've thought about this one the more it sounds like a fuel supply problem....I haven't had it on any bikes but I've had identical problems in cars over the years.......

It might be worth looking to see if you can blow air backwards up the pipes back through the tank (with fuel cap off obviously) then having a ride........

"By George, I think he's got it!"

...well, it's certainly waaay better than it was.

Thanks first to MikeO, Fanum, Steve Pickford and everyone else who has contributed to this thread; it's very much appreciated.

I took the bike back to Vines again on Friday and after having had a frank and open discussion with Damien, Phil and Duncan about it, battle commenced.

Long story considerably shortened, they've replaced the coil(s?)with a unit from a crashed 1200GS and the "rocking-horse" tendencies have gone. It's idling better, also; smoother, more rhythmic and pulls far more cleanly all the way to the redline.

Fanum; it's a most generous offer, thanks, but I've already ridden another, identical 'cept for it having knobblies rather than T66X'. Mine's still not as nice as that one was (it just seemed brisker...), but it's vastly improved over the "OmiGodit'sgonnakillme" feeling I was experiencing before Friday.

I seem to be cursed with dodgy coils (fnarr!) on German vehicles as I also own one of the reknowned V.A.G. cars afflicted with dodgy Bosch bits, also. :(

Anyhoo, Phil at Vines mentioned that they'd seen something similar elsewhere and besides, the required part was on back-order with the supplier (which one might read something in to...), they'd decided to give it a whirl and swap them over.

And it works! Woo-hoo!

It's almost due its 12k service anyway, the "right" unit is on order and should be in by the time 12k clicks around (2 weeks, tops).
