Hi Again all:

Sorry to ask questions when I am so new to the Forum ......
But not alot of information down under that i can readily find (Some one please correct me if I am wrong)

I want to replace the main and rod bearings while I have the engine striped down.
Crankshaft journals are in great condition so just some bearing will suffice.

Some body please enlighten me about the colour coding of BMW bearings...wtf

The crankshaft has no paint markings nor do the connecting rods (so I presume that it is a "0" crank)

The existing main bearings:

Front: 1340 625/626
Rear Thurst: 1285541 542/543
Con Rod all 4 bearings cap and rod: 1341 426

The local BMW motorad dealer has no clue as to what bearings to order

Can anyone help in giving me BMW part numbers to order or even point me to someone who has a clue what to supply
(dont mind buying from you guys in the UK or the EU)

Thanks in Advance

The big end shells only have one standard size iirc.
The mains are a pain,as the paint markings disappear,
Again,Iirc ,the stamped part no refers to more than one grade,so the only thing you can do is
A, guess:D
B. Take the larger size from the available ones that relate to the stamped pt number and measure the clearance with plastigauge.
Or measure the original shells and reuse if within spec

Thanks everybody that has replied

What I can deduce so far:

ROD:

11 24 7 694 761 (RED) Cap Bearing
11 24 7 694 762 (BLUE) Rod Bearing

MAIN FRONT:
11 21 1 340 625 (YELLOW)
11 21 1 340 626 (GREEN)

MAIN REAR THRUST
11 21 8 555 236 (YELLOW)
11 21 8 555 237 (GREEN)

Now all I have to do is decide what colour................Rock, Scissors, Paper I guess
As I have no way of setting up and measuring the various colours unless I order all of them ???

Not sure if this will help, you probably already have this information.Extract from the Manual.

Can someone put me out of my ignorance as to what the colour codes represent? Even just enough information so I know what to Google for.

All the information you need is given in the technical data above, together with the appropriate parts list.
Accurate measuring skill is required.
Eg Measure your main bearing journal diameter accurately and use the appropriate shells.
You can double check clearance using a bore guage and micrometer or, as Mikeyboy suggested, plastiguage.
Either way running clearance is in the spec.
The main bearing colour codes represent the different size shells.
Often only tenths of a thousandth of an inch between sizes.
There are also oversize shells with colour codes and colour codes which represent where a shell is fitted etc.
