The other day I went into a local bike shop and said

"I've just picked up a 1150GS, It's got all its service history, which is all upto date... But I'd like to give it an oil and filter change anyway"

The reply came "No problem sir... heres one filter and one 4ltr can of 10w40"...

Away I went.. changed the oil and filter... and low and behold the old girls now making many strange noises it never did before (valve rattle mainly)...:spitfire And it seems to have sprung a leek from where the oil pipe from the cooler joins the sump.:blast

Now having joined the forum and read about how 10w40 is a little too light for the 1150... I just want to double double check what grade to put in.. is it 20w50?

Also - has anyone else encountered the leaking oil pipe fitting? is it common? And is it just a matter of fitting a new copper washer?

Many thanks for any advice...:)

Use 20/50 or 15/50,SF onwards, mineral or semi synth.Depends on your wallet.
The earlier 1150 can rattle on start-up,usually from the nearside pot due to poor camchain tensioner design.Do a search if it bothers you.
Oh yes, welcome the the weird and rattly world of GSerdom.:thumb2

Cheers! :beerjug:

I've changed the oil and filter again... this time with nice semi syth 20w50... And ive replaced the two copper washers on the oil pipe... And all is well again... back to the "faint" ruttling of a well tuned flat twin :)

Time to get out and put as many miles on her as possible... now wheres the mud?
