r1150gs rear light

Hi, I would like to improve my rear end visibility, if you pardon the pun. Looking at improving the rear and brake lights, as well as adding extra lights, including rear fog light. Any suggestions as to type, mounting, position, switches gratefully received.

Touratech do a bracket (quite cheap too) to fit additional rear lights to the 1150 GS but dont list any additional lights to fit them. Ebay do list lots of addition rear blights that might then fit.

Swapped the original for the TT kit and think they look ok. Plenty bright enough to.

I use hyperlites as additional brake lights. In addition they go to a lower light level when not braking. Highly visible and now you have redundant lights and people can see you braking. If you don't like flashing brake lights you can easily disable that.

Thanks to everyone for their input, really appreciated.

I assume the TT bracket fits the GS as well as the GSA, I have asked them to confirm. I assume it does, just not listed for the GS. And, as you say, for TT kit, very low price!

The Motorworks or the TT rear light would be a great first step to upgrading, then add extras to the TT bracket.

I like the idea of the Hyperlites, unfortunately the UK police don't. I am not sure if they have a problem with the capability of flashing brake lights. The fact that the flashing of the brake lights can be disabled would probably do the trick. I have also looked at the Lite Blazer, not sure if the flashing brake light can be disabled on that.

The Rugged Roads site is down at the mo, will have a look at their options when I can.

Will post before and after pics, when sorted.

Unfortunately, we don't do the LED panels anymore. They were made for us by Techno of this parish, and he is now unable to supply us. I don't know if he's still using the forum, but it might be worth your while dropping him a PM.

The panels are brilliant, and I used one for several years when I had an R1150GS.

Lights

Swapped my GSA light out for the TT LED twin light set up and can recommend, very very bright, comes complete and is a 90 min job to exchange. One MOT guy was moaning he was blinded temporarily doing the MOT!! Prat! And they look much better also.

The brake filament of the stop/tail bulb keeps going on my 2005 GSA. I thought about swapping it out for a Halfords Led Bulb, but then my numberplate would be lit up in claret would it? Then again this morning my dipped-beam bulb went... so I'm thinking I have an electrical issue... any thoughts from ya'll experianced types? I'm okay with the mechanical things but 'lektrix is all smoke and voodoo to me :S

Appreciate any help or advise you can throw my way, upgrading does sound like a good shout but only if replacement bits are readily available, nah meeen?

There are really good LEDs and poo LEDs, they are all better than a filament bulb as they are way more reliable. The cheap piece of shite he is showing is only representative of the bottom end of the market. What he doesn't mention is red LEDs which are as close to the red spectrum as is possible and far better than white LEDs for tail lights.

As for him running into the car infront, maybe he should learn to ride

They are super bright though. His argument just doesn't stand up. Choose this dull bulb which is bright when you brake, or this brighter bulb which is still brighter when braking but shows up a little less differential. He also blahs the test buy flicking them on and off so quickly that it appears worse than it is.

Riding around with a blown tail light, or brake light because the element is so thin in order to make it bright, is far worse in my opinion. He also bring out the good old 'cheap Chinese' line. Fook me, I bet half of the stuff in his life are made by the Chinese, including some of his potentially life saving products such as his suspension, cables, brakes, helmet

The man is a cock end and the only thing the video proves is that he is best used as pig fodder. I bet he owns a T shirt with "loud pipes save lives" emblazoned on it

Don't look at Bike LED sets, look at TRUCK lights.....the sort they use as really bright lights on rubber stalks to mark their boundaries.

IP67, shock proof and SMALL........small enough to fit inside the red lens of a GS, and such a small current draw that they don't affect the bulb-blown trigger on the ECU. (so no red triangle)


Yes, Trucks are mostly 24 volt, but vehicle LED lights generally operate from 9-30V, so no probs.

I had a pair fitted inside the rear lens of my old K bike, and they worked superbly

Yes mate, I'm going to do that with my K but I'm looking for something to fit the KTM ( don't want an extra light), I've been using the same LED bulb for the last 6+ years for reliability but it's not that bright and only become really visible when directly behind it.

I've had similar to one of these in in the past. Worked well in a GS back light but the Ktm isn't so deep, so side on it may not work so well. Worked ok once soldered (because the standard bulb holder sucks arse) in the bergs back light but they have no depth at all.

There's plenty of depth on the 640 lens so perhaps one from my link may fit, expensive though!

I'm using an after market tail piece on my 'Berg which comes with is own LED strip light.
