Hi All,

Does the R1150 GS time clock have a permanent live feed from the battery or does it have it's own back up battery in the rider info panel ?.
My 2002, 50,000 miler, just started playing up yesterday, everytime you turn the ignition off the clock resets to zero. Not sure if a feed from the battery has gone down or if there is a seperate battery to keep the clock running that has gone.
At least I know how long I've been riding for but not what time to go home :D
The main battery is fully charged and everything else is working fine.
Any info welcome before I have to go and buy a 'Haynes Book of Lies'.

There is a permanent supply from the battery. Can't remember what fuse number it is but it also feeds the auxiliary socket. HTH.

Still No Time

Hi all,
still no luck with the clock feed.:nenau
I have full power to the rider display and clock with the ignition on.
My problem is that the clock will not retain the memory of the correct time when I turn the ignition off. It just goes back to 00.00 then starts working again when the ignition is turned back on.
Fuse 3 and power via ignition 'on' is fine, it is the permanent live feed to keep the clocks memory that I can't find ????

Hi all,
It just goes back to 00.00 then starts working again when the ignition is turned back on.

As far as I can recall there is only one feed to the clock to power both the display and the timekeeping. If the clock is reseting to 00:00 when you switch off and staying like that (ie not going to 00:01 after a minute) then it suggests that the clock itself is chuffed. The usual behaviour is for the display to blank when you short out the aux socket :augie or take out the battery then reset to 00:00 (before going to 00:01, 00:02 etc) on replacing the fuse or battery. I've also had the clock zero out on starting when I've been a bit low on electrickery in the battery and all the amps rushed off to turn the starter motor rather than runnning the lights or RID.

If it goes to 00:00 and stays there I fear that the clock itself might be U/S.

This would have been my guess too......mine does this quite often:nenau

Shaggys clock is zeroing when the ignition is turned off - not when trying to start with a low battery. Two completely different things.

I once had a bike in where the clock was powered from fuse 5 .

But if that fuse "blows" the bike doesn't run.

Any more Ideas ?

Hi

When the ignition is turned off there is no clock display at all !!!
Turn the ignition on and the clock starts from 00.00 and works as normal. It can be reset to correct time and keeps time all the time the ignition is on.
Once you turn the ignition off the clock disappears again and on turning the ignition back on goes it resets to 0.00 and starts working again.
The rest of the Rider Display works fine, battery appears good,
there must be some power supply to the clock when the ignition is off that is not working but I just can't figure out where it runs.

Any more ideas very welcome

My electrical knowledge is limited to checking fuses so the only help I can offer is;

Wrist watch until you sell the bike and then when you do come to sell it insist that all potential buyers can only view the bike at midnight or midday:hide

Thanks

Thanks for your ideas :thumb2 , I will have to get the meter out or get the black electrical tape out , cover the clock face and get a £1.50 stick on watch from Rotherham market :D ( yes, we have learn't to tell the time in Rotherham !!!!! )

My r1150gsa is in Jefferies for same thing new vdo pod fitted.

Have you tried taking out the old fuse and replcing it with a new one?
I read somewhere else on the forum that fuses can look ok but be faulty
May be worth a try:augie
I get the same problem as well but usually the battery is low or I have inadvertantly shorted the fuse when using the auxiliary socket to check/charge the battery.:blast

Blue 15a fuse needed changing

What would I do without UKgser? Followed thread and headed to fuse box. Third up from the bottom (near side of bike) is the blue 15a fuse. Mine had blown. Replaced and clock working fine. I shorted the aux socket when running a USB plug for my IPhone.
