How difficult is it to change a fork seal. I've never done one but saw a mechanic strip the ohlins off my RSV looked simple(ish). I've a Haynes manual and a toolkit, is disaster looming.
20 minute job. Couple of spanners (19 & 13/4?), screwdriver to remove, 30mm (?) socket to tap in. I'm sure lots have peeps have described the process on here. Just remove plastic cap on yoke, undo nut, drop tube down, wiggle bars a bit to give room to pull tube out completely - watch the drips. Lever old seal out with screwdriver, push new one it with socket. Reassemble.
No need for oil unless you want to replace the old stuff. There is a drain plug at the bottom of each for leg for this purpose. Mine were wicked tight and resulted in my snapping the end off of my allan key which is still in the bolt head.
No springs in GS forks so you don't need to replace the oil anyway.
When replacing the seal make sure you get it the right way round. Wrong way round and oil will piss out again.
Took me about 30 minutes to do one seal the first time I did it. I used Steptoe's guide from the Font of Knowledge section.
