R12 G/S Enduro

Had a full day out in the R12 today and I like the bike more and more as I ride it , for me it’s ideal and I have no complaints whatsoever

I left Durham at 0745 and went via Bishop Auckland , Staindrop , Middleton-in-Teesdale , Kirkby Stephen and then a coffee stop at Kendal

From Kendal I headed up to Windermere , through Keswick and on to Cockermouth and a fuel stop

From Cockermouth it was over to Carlisle for a lunch break whilst Lloyd Motorrad did my 600 mile service

From Carlisle I headed home via Hexham and Consett getting back at 1730

All told a 225 mile round trip

So for me it’s all day comfortable (all be it in 90 minute sections) , has great suspension and brakes well suited to the A & B roads I rode and all in all a great days riding :-)

Yes, I should have mentioned that. My point was that you can have a quasi-G/S experience for alot less.
But that Unit Garage kit ain’t cheap at over £4k.Plus a few grand to upgrade the dreadful OE suspension.

Given my experience of farkling a 2018 Turban into a half-decent ride, I’d take a lot of persuading to use it as a start point again. Even with decent suspension, an improved seat, lowered pegs and raised bars, it’s still no GS.

Great for a fun ride to the pub (and I actually rode it from Land’s End to John O’Groats) but it’s no mile-muncher.

I saw the 12G/S at ABR. Expected (and probably wanted) not to like it but thought it looked much better in the flesh than in the pics.

From what John’s saying, I suspect it’s a much better base bike than the Turban ever was…

Makes sense .
I do like the look of the 12 G/S.
Turban looked great but was the worst bike I’ve ever owned .

A review mentioned the gearing seems taller compared to a regular GS. Do you find that ?

I know what you mean about Turban. I still have mine (2018, so "proper" with no electrickery apart from ABS). Sorting the suspension was easy, though not cheap. The ergonomics are still poor though, even after changing pegs, bars and seat. I like it now but I think it was made for looking at, more than riding...

The R12 G/S is what the Urban should have been.. Was somewhat disappointed when the Ur a was launched considering the concept version was the Lac Rose…. Still ended up buying one though…. The 12 G/S is better in every way, comfort, suspension, engine, gearbox etc…

Called into Halliwell Jones, Chester with the intention of a test and purchase but all to busy moving bikes around so no money from me then. Same happened on my last bike and bought from Manchester

So, you've switched from Turban to 12 G/S?

I had a test ride at Sycamore, Peterborough today. An itch that had to be scratched.

The bike was absolutely lovely. Smooth engine, great gearbox with a very smooth quick shifter. What a great bike to ride. I was only out for 45 minutes. I could have had longer as nobody had booked after me, however, that was all I needed to know I want one. It was a cross between my '81 G/S and my Mikeyboy special, but modern and powerful and tight. Oh, and really fast compared to the airheads and with brakes.

The only issue is that I was planning on selling the Desert X and Kove 450R to fund the new bike. The Kove will be going, however, in my reasoning, the R12G/S doesn't replace the DDX, but it may have to sit alongside it, which obviously means that I'll have to wait to build up funds.

I can't quite put my finger on it, but there is too much difference between the two bikes and they both have something about them I like, so it can't be a straight swap.

Great bike though. I can quite clearly see why Mr. Nicholson is happy with his.

It certainly looks good in white /blue etc though not seen one in the flesh. Might try one when I get the chance but it’s not much use to me with the riding I do as don’t think it would bd much cop at touring

So, you've switched from Turban to 12 G/S?
Had a Turban for a few years, loved it but spent loads getting it to where I wanted it to be and it was still rubbish on the loose stuff. Test rode the 12 G/S a few weeks back and they are poles apart.. Will have one in the garage before the year is out..

Wooohoooo . Ordered one today ! White red and blue Enduro with the 18 inch rear wheel and comfort kit . Not coming until September but at least I have done the deal . Genuinely excited ! Cannot wait . It fits me really well and I enjoyed the test ride so much It had to happen
Well done you... The colour scheme that you've selected is THE one to have and it will be interesting to learn how you assess the comfort kit upon riding.
Roll-on September!

Bit the bullet and booked a test ride for tomorrow. Just sitting on it in the dealership today I'm impressed by the ergonomics which are always a big issue for me with being 6'4". Only trouble is I dont have room for another bike in the garage so something else will have to go to make room for this (if I like it).....
