R12 G/S Enduro

Jeez Louise man! OK! I’m sure the OEM headlight is just fine, but I enjoy a little extra light. Why don’t you write what I should say and I will sign it once my lawyers have had a chance to go over it.

It must be exhausting, carrying around all of those wet blankets.

There is a chap on a GS whom I encounter on my way to work, every fcking morning he comes 6 spots lights blazing blinding the opposite traffic. A royal c-nt. B3349....IT'S A JUNGLE! One day he will end up on a bonnet.
You’re absolutely right about getting the blast from on coming bikes at night. Just because the dial goes to 11, doesn’t mean you have to keep it there all the time. I try to be mindful. It’s good that I can adjust the intensity on the fly. It’ll take a couple trips at night to fine tune the angle of the beam. We have guys around here that have several lights sets installed. I think the record was two aftermarket auxiliary light sets plus the factory driving lights and the main headlight. I probably would’ve gone with the RUBY Moto R5 if they were in stock but I know the R7s and have used them on the other bikes. The ezCAN allows one to Taylor the light preferences. I’m trying the daytime light modulation on this new set.

Thanks for the question. Can can operate your auxiliary lights with the wonder wheel if you have a HEX ezCAN. If not, a remote switch is probably necessary. There’s no specific plug on the bike that allows you the ease of plug and play. If you don’t have a wonder wheel , something like a thunder box would be a good option. I’ve seen several bikes with a nice size spot on one of the engine guards and it does look retro and nicely done.
Thanks. I do have the wonder wheel on mine.

When I checked HEX’ website they don’t list the R12 G/S. I guess one from the “big” 1300 GS also works?

Will look for a shop, sounds like it’s above my pay grade.

@rost12 .
The latest version of the ezCAN for the 1300 works on the R 12. Mojave
HEX sent me a unit to beta test a couple weeks ago. I’ve run all their tests and sent them the results. They also gave me permission to let people know that the Mojave for the 1300 works on the R 12. You can always contact them with fitment concerns.
They should be amending their literature soon. I agree they are quite pricey but it is what it is. If you didn’t have the wonder wheel, the thunder box or something similar would be a good option.

Fitted the Unit Garage pannier rails . They are excellent quality and fitment was spot on , no issues whatsoever .

I have removed the RHS pillion foot peg and ordered a replacement LHS exhaust hanger without the pillion foot peg

Only other change I made was swapping out the supplied hex head bolts with torx head to match the BMW ones

There was some dispute on light placement. So instead of moving the lights, I just decided to add more lights.
More is better right?? The cool thing about these is that they are rechargeable. And zip ties are available at any hardware store. 😉.

It’s amazing how many uses LED shop lights provide.

No telling when they will make it to the US. The knock offs from Ali Express might be available before they are off back order.

The R12 G/S is what the Urban should have been.. Was somewhat disappointed when the Ur a was launched considering the concept version was the Lac Rose…. Still ended up buying one though…. The 12 G/S is better in every way, comfort, suspension, engine, gearbox etc…

The R 12 G/S is the better overall bike but the Urban has the benefit of less weight, larger tank, larger alternator, 19"/17" could be a benefit depending on usage, half the maintenance cost of an R 12 G/S, no Euro5+ sensors.

Wondering if you could create a best of both worlds bike. Adding a larger tank to the R 12 G/S, lowering the weight, fitting a driveshaft that doesn't need servicing/replacement every 12k/24k miles, coding out all the Euro5+ equipment.

At 8Kg heavier and 2.5 litres less fuel capacity its not that much of a benefit (which is far out weighed by the Urban's terrible suspension)

Servicing at a main dealer is around the same cost and I cant see any issues with being Euro 5+

No idea why you think a replacement drive shaft is required every 12K miles ?
