I always knew servicing would be expensive for the GS but bloody hell.......my bike was serviced in Nov 09 at 5700 miles it's now at 9500 miles almost a year later, so still 2500 miles short of the 12K service.

Rang my local dealer who has quoted me £330 for an annual combined with a yearly and a brake fluid change. Now I haven't got alot of experience with GS'S. So I need to ask you all whether this is good value or just damn expensive !!

does it realy need its brake fluid changing, i think that will reduce the cost by £90, they say that it gets condensation in there and needs changing, not sure id bother though!

the brake fluid change is every 2 years, most of the stuff on the yearly service is covered in the other services
I've just had
18K service
Brake fluid change (annual)
MOT
for £230....:)

Did he say an annual combined with a yearly, sounds like he is onto a real winner there.

When I went to school once a year was annual, lucky he did not charge for an Almanac as well.

If I remember correctly, the first "annual" service is after the first 12 months but then it goes every two years after that. I replace brake fluid every two years on my other bike so doing it that often sound reasonable. On my 1200 I paid £330 for my 6K service with the annual, but that included collect and return by the dealer in their van - two trips, one bike, 180 miles. I paid £176 for the 12K service only, including collection again, but I provided the oil (plus it was discounted for the winter).

I think £330 is on the high side but not excessive.

12000 miles + Annual service on my GSA cost £253 at Cotswold BMW.
And they did a proper valet (it was minging when took it in:D)

Ignore the annual service. Just get the standard service for the mileage and change brake fluid every 2 years if you feel it's necessary. It depends on the miles you are covering.

The brake system uses a glycol-based hydraulic fluid. The fluid is "hygroscopic," which means it tends to absorb moisture over time (never leave a can of brake fluid open for this reason). Throw away half opened tins, only keep 'unopened' brake fluid in the garage.
Moisture lowers the boiling point of the fluid and causes internal corrosion in the brake system. That's why the fluid should be replaced when brake repairs are made or every two years for preventive maintenance.
Nothing to do with BMW's expensive servicing policy's.

.....But more importantly can give you brake fade on the move.....

Maybe we should compile a table of service costs, a sort of quick glance reference guide. And set it as a 'sticky'.
There seems a lot of service cost type queries.

(Sorry, I can't help as I do all mine myself.)

I run two bikes for work, so have little time to service them. I'm also on the spanners with work so when home dont then fancy a busman's holiday, got enough else to do repairing toy's for the kids and cutting the ever growing lawn. If your around the Derby/Notts area then RWF Motorcycles will do a 6k service for about £210. I print out the BM service sheets and Rob does them all bar the plug in fault stuff.
Mention my nane.....he'll add 10%, lol

Give Steptoe a shout. He'll make sure the job is done properly (unlike most dealers) and he'll not take you to the cleaners:thumb

24k service costs - '09 GSA

Anyone had a 24k service on a '09 model year GSA yet ?

I'm hearing £420 from my initial call to dealer ?!

They replaced gearbox - so I can take off gearbox oil replacement but it still sounds expensive.

Checking my records (nerd) - my '06 GSA at 24k service was £493 but that included rear disc and pads also....

Anyone ?

Still too 'young' to take it out of FBMWSH (IMHO)....

Is that NOG, when I was riding their demo's and they wanted my cash they were telling me 6k services were about £180, 12k Services about £240 and even the 24k big service in the £300 - £350 region.

I think the servicing prices are higher once you really own the bike, there seems to be a huge discount applied to those who do not yet own one :nenau

That last sentence is just plain bollocks. If you ask the guys in the NOG service dept for a quote for a service they will do it by creating a job card (WIP) which has all the parts and labour times booked to it. They will then supply you with a pro-forma invoice so you know exactly how much the service cost will be. I've done this with them on the last three services and on every occassion the service cost has been correct to the penny.

It strikes me that you don't trust anyone? :nenau

Your right I don't trust anyone, which is why I want to know when handing over relatively large sums of cash that the work I am paying for is really being done, for years the motor industry has been ripping people off, and generally get away with it.

I used to trust OME when they were about, and many years ago I worked for a Honda dealer that did the work properly, but we knew many a dealer that did not.

I have several friends who have worked as mechanics at many car stealerships and it is common practice for efficiency bonuses to be tempting enough to ensure your car is not serviced properly and bits out of sight not changed, work not done etc - but still billed for.

Heard of one chap who was 200% efficient, i.e. on average took half the book time to finish all his work, the dealer knew he was on the fiddle, but as they charged out twice as much money turned a blind eye, if they get caught they can plead they did not know and sack him, and until they get caught they are laughing all the way to the bank...well not with my hard earned cash!

Trust needs to be earned in my book :blagblah

NOG are the best dealer I've ever spent my money with. They've been servicing my bikes for the last 10yrs almost - trust them completely.

(so, yes - it was NOG)

Just wanted to get a sounding on what people are paying for 24k services. I know its the biggie - probably just forgot the last time I paid out for that as the market was a little better then and I wasnt watching the pennies quite as much !

They definately told me it was between £300 and £350 depending what needs doing, I even wrote it down as at the time I was only considering a GS.

I was surprised how "cheap" this was, but then being used to bikes like the ZZR where it probably takes longer to remove all the bodywork for the big service than it does to complete it on the BMW!

May even call them about just doing an FD oil change as I really want to be 100% sure this has been done and the bike is not still running with the original griding paste in there
