Hi all, I wanted to replicate the HP2 Megamoto that I had for a few years back from 2008 through to 2011, so when a suitable very low mileage standard R1200GS came along, of course I bought it.
It was a one owner from new, owned by a nice chap in Northern Ireland who bought it to tour with his wife, but in his 16 years of ownership, they didn't tour once, hence it had only covered something like 5800 miles from new. I then had it delivered and gave the undertaking a bit of thought. on one hand it would have been a shame to half take it to bits, but I couldn't stretch to buying a HP2 again, so....
I will start by saying I am not sure who might have undertaken this conversion before, but a number of BMW parts are needed.
I printed off, from the internet a fairly comprehensive set of notes that was provided by an owner who had done the conversion before.
I then decided to go ahead, I found a brand new, never used, 17" front wheel, an excellent order 17" matching spoke pattern rear wheel (which is much wider) and together with the rear subframe, all 3 parts were sent off for powder coating in a matching blue metallic finish. Both stands were powder coated in a silver metallic finish so everything resembled the Megamoto. The bodywork was then sent off to be changed to BMW Alpine White, new tank side panels were sourced in silver paint which some models of GS were indeed sold with.
A secondhand front mudguard was purchased and shortened as per notes, and it was spaced down from the bottom yoke with stainless spacers. Before the front wheel was fitted, a pair of brand new Brembo discs and pads were installed. A R9T rear hugger was fitted because the new rear wheel was fitted with a 180/55 17 tyre, wider than a GS hugger would cover etc. The exhaust was removed and replaced with a set of de-cat headers and finally a Remus end can was fitted. To aid with the exhaust change and to make sure the bike doesn't run too lean, a booster plug as also incorporated. Oil and filter and air filter were changed etc before use.
Just to bling up the bike a little more, a LED headlight unit and a tinted and lower sports screen were located and fitted.
I am sure that I have forgotten things, but the work was undertaken over the winter of 2024 through to early 2025 and because I was intending to tour France last summer, new Michelin Pilot Road 6's were fitted along with a GSA stainless rear rack (for my cheap but large Chinese top box - I only take the one box), a French Crit-air voucher was bought and lastly a simple ball mount for my TomTom Rider satnav.
However, in early spring I pulled muscles in my back and the trip was cancelled......
The bike has still only covered less than 6000 miles, but that might go up slightly if the sun keeps shining.
If anyone has any questions, just ask or message me.
If it sells, I will downsize to a more middle weight bike I think, this getting old is bloody crap.
Price is flexible within reason and I am initially thinking of around the £5000 mark, but if I am wrong I am sure someone will tell me.
Photos to follow as soon as I work out how to get them from my phone onto this forum, sorry.
Thanks
