R1200gs adventure 2011 DOHC "Advice Needed" rear oil leak

I have, on another post, asked for advice to do with servicing and general work on my bike as someone who is definitely now great with the tools.

I have given the bike a full service and have had a few issues with rounded sumps, final drive bolts which have all been removed and replaced.

With that in mind when I did the service on the final drive the filler bolt was completely rounded so after seeing The Old Mechanic on Youtube have the same issue he filled the final drive by removing the ABS sensor. On my bike you could see scratches where someone had removed the ABS sensor with a screwdriver or similar over the years (rather than getting the rounded bolt out).... Anyway I filled it the same way via the ABS sensor and used a new aluminium crush washer bought from Motorworks in its replacement. I have taken the bike out tonight for its first, post service, run and there's oil all over the rear wheel, disk and pads (in that area) and when I removed the rear wheel to look its definitely leaking from the ABS sensor.

I've googled it and one answer was that its a rubber washer needed instead of the aluminium washer? Can anyone confirm either way please or advise what I'm doing wrong?

Hi Marky, looking at the RealOEM page, looks like it shows the sensor (they call it a speed sensor) with what they call a 'centering ring' part number 33117707796 on first then an 'O-ring' part number 34527708523. They're only a couple of quid. If you don't have access to Real OEM, just put the part number in google and MSP (Motorcycle Spare Parts) will ping up and they have an exploded diagram on their page !!

The centering ring is really just a washer, and as per above diagram it goes after the o ring. They often get lost or are missing and it will definitely leak with only the o ring in place. It is definitely not an ali crush washer.

Thank you guys..... much appreciated. Last question tonight. I put new pads in the rear and now they are covered in diff oil, will they need to be replaced with a new set or can they be cleaned with brake cleaner? Or similar
 
If the o ring and washer is present, it should be a nice tight snug fit and the retaining screw doesn’t really do much.
Mine is a bit of a bugger to pop/pull out!
Should not leak oil.
Is the o ring actually still there ?

I would clean the pads and disc up, roughen the pads a bit and reuse.
