I'm currently trying to do this but finding it impossible !! I have the hook but how to get the white docket up while pulling it over the black ball joint is flipping impossible !! What were u gripping with the hook ?

I was doing the bulb clip mod using screw covers for cabinets, all was going great until the last second as I tightened up the screw holding the clip on the high beam bulb, pop the reflector came out of the ball and cup fixing, took me an hour and half to get the fucker back in using the hole drilled in the bottom method highlighted in this thread,
Many thanks for posting guys thought I'd broken it completely,

Same as Gaza I was modding the retaining clips and pop. Magwych's pics on another thread were extremely helpful in showing the parts so knowing how they worked helped a lot. I used a bit of string and it was on in under a minute.

The headlight needs to be off the bike. I fed the string through the main beam access hole as a loop over the white plastic socket making sure it was at the back near the two screws. I then put my left finger through the same hole and hooked it behind the white socket. At this point I pulled my finger back pushing the socket against the ball, now I just pulled up on the string with a reasonable amount of force and increased the pull on my finger and hey presto! Then it was just a case of pulling the string out.

I even pushed it off again and tried again and no problem. Alas I forgot to take pics as was thinking about what I was doing.

Good for you if you get it done under warranty but I suspect if you try the drill method, the dealer may reject a claim.

I used the drill method and it worked fine but I do rather admire the hooked tool method and would try that before drilling anywhere.

If you have difficulty lining up ya' balls for re-insertion and are finding it difficult, wind in the beam adjuster to get it to a more convenient position.

Think I put a slack zip lock in there to prevent it popping again.

Fitting a new hid and the fucker popped off again, stupid bloody design, will have to take the whole assembly off again to try to pop it back in again, PITA.
That's good Fridays job after I sober up in the morning.
Now has anyone got any advice about the loose cable tie idea to stop it happening again.

i always remove the headlamp to fit bulbs, its only two screws, disconnect the headlamp and instrument wiring, remove sidelight bulb.
leave the clocks attached and swivel the whole lot out, loads easier than fiddling around:thumb

Now you tell me,:blast:D

I did exactly that last night after noticing it had come unclipped on the way to work, took it out thought I'd popped the ball back in, refitted the HID put it back on the bike and it had popped off again:blast will have another go tomorrow. Gave me Tourettes I can tell you:mad:

All back in again, what a PITA this is, top right hand ball and cup kept coming apart as well whilst trying to re-seat the bottom one,
I couldn't work out a way to secure it in anyway so is back in as standard,
