Did the brakes and then took out the starter. Dusty/dirty but nothing obvious, a squirt of brake cleaner then WD40 and a wipe over and all is well again with the bike starting quietly. Did a check with inspection mirror and torch on the clutch plate thickness (looks good for 40k) and checked the crank oil seal for leakage due to a slight oily film inside the bellhousing.
A bit awkward to remove the starter as I had to disconnect the gear linkage to make room for removal.
Took 35 mins all in, a dead easy job.
