I have a problem with my 2006 R1200GS Adventure, and wondered if anybody could help me out with it ?

The problem is that when you open and close the throttle, there is a jolt from somewhere in the drive system. It happens everytime the throttle is open and closed quickly, but as I am conscious of it, I tend to roll the throttle open and closed, which helps a little.

I’m not sure where the jolt is coming from, but it feels final drive/drive shaft related, rather than gearbox.

My brother has the same model bike and year and his is as smooth as silk.

I really want to bottom this problem, as I love the bike apart from this. Does anybody know what the problem is with my bike ?

Cheers

Andy

How many miles have you done? Mine was doing that *just* before a bearing in the final drive died (approx 30,000mls).

Has your bike always done this or is it something that has come on recently?

they all have backlash and this is maybe what u are feeling. engine off on centre stand, put in gear and rotate the rear wheel, to see the amount of rotational movement at the wheel.

Sounds expensive:blast

Maybe not as bad as I first thought.

I've got some info from Jim VonBaden over on Adventure Rider, that says they all have a certain amount of backlash, but the state of tune can reduce it, If you have properly set valves and endplay, and the throttle bodies are properly synced it reduces the backlash.

It's done around 4500 miles since I last set the valves endplay and throttle bodies, so it's probably time to do it again, hopefully that will reduce the backlash......I'll keep you updated.

difficult to see how, valve clearances, let alone rocker endfloat affect the severity of transmission lash :eek

throttle body balance, i can understand.

Accumulated wear from clutch splines, gears, gearbox shaft claw damper, driveshaft joints/splines, rear bevel wear all amplified at the tyre circumference.

Use the throttle more carefully.
