Anyone own or had a test ride on one of these. Fancied the 1150 a while back before \I got the GS. Doesnt seem like the r1200s was as big a seller as BMW had hoped and there are some decent deals out there. Any type of feedback appreciated.

BM never made a 1150S version . But I had a 1100S in 1999 ,nice bike and a good tourer ( large panniers were extras and I had the BM risers) it was more like the VFR . The last version was the BoxerCup in 2005 http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photos/2005models/2005models-BMW-R1100S-BoxerCupReplika.htm but I prefer this one http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2285/2319196568_4226d6c714.jpg . The new 1200S is very different bike cant really pigeon hole it . The seating position is of a sport bike , but is lacking power . I suppose you could tour on it (there are some small panniers or a large bag) but there is very little wind protection, a GS/RT is better for that job . Good news is they are cheap .
Have a look here for a balanced advice, they are a good bunch:

i have a r1100s and love it, it does what i want from a ''sports perspective''
i tried a 1200 and they are very nice, but i couldnt justify the difference, just for looks alone.

Thanks for the replies guys. Like the link to other site. Very interesting. Might have to test one.

Liked mine. Toured on it , did track days , all good fun and v capable. Happy to sit at high speeds and was comfy doing so.Nice top end rush to the engine. If possible get one with ohlins fitted.

I've ridden three different R1200S's (Jefferies courtesy bikes) and had one for the whole weekend.

MUCH quicker than a GS - less torque low down, but a real kick between 6.5 & 8k rpm - it hoists huge wheelies in the first two gears :D Very light, nice handling, but the riding position was too sporty for me.

A complete contrast to the R1100S which didn't have the power to match it's looks and was just an uncomfy (slow) sportstourer
