R1250GS (2022) stolen from garage overnight.

Like I say, just leave your bike outside your garage with the keys in if thats how you feel.
Being on a fixed income (pension) I don’t take kindly to having increased premiums if it’s not my fault.
You are correct, nothing is worth losing your life for, but I strongly believe an eye for an eye!

I do what i feel is necessary to protect my Bike, it has locks, a tracker and is stored securely. But i would not be putting my life between it & those who want to steal it. The tracker can do its thing, and i might get it back or not.

Your insurance premium is barely reflective of your circumstances - making a claim will barely touch the sides of your future premium going up or down. What has happened with the underwriter that year is what will decide it. I;ve never had any premiums increase (Bike or Car) the year after a claim. Most have gone down......

Really!! ……My premium’s shot up on my bikes and cars when renewal time came after my bike was nicked. Although I claimed off my bike insurance, I still had to declare my claim on my car polices with the inevitable increase. Any chance you can share your motor insurance broker?

For me personally it’s not just the lump on f metal (or cheapo chinky plastic) that’s been nicked.

If my car gets nicked then it’s a pain and inconvenient, but I can suck that up.

If a bike gets nicked……

It’s memories

It’s the col d”isere at -6 with no hotel booked

It’s Morocco solo….

It’s arriving in Istanbul….

Etc etc.

As far as John Wick goes, I think my baton and 2 Iron would be the prosecution.

Thank you all. - R1250GS Rallye (white). HV22XGN

Stolen from a windowless locked garage in Reading.

Extras:
Engine bars with additional Wunderlich head protector plates.
Panniers were on it. The panniers have a vertical red reflective strip on the rear and a black vertical strip on the front (that reflects white.
Mounting straps for the Touratech tank bag.
Shit, this is getting close. Which part of Reading? Did you rent a council lock up? I used PITBOXX for storage for 5 months. Secured car and bike storage.

Chris Eades company? How was that. I have a friend Reading side looking for some secure storage, he needs to go away for an oil rig gig and doesn't want to leave his V4 chained up like some BDSM thing in the garage..

Yep, it’s Chris. Unfortunately the price has gone up. Smooth operation, my bike was collected, paid monthly. You can have your bike valeted or even serviced. You can take your bike there yourself, but they restrict access to the main store. Privacy…Informed my insurance and didn’t had to pay anything extra.

As per the title - not particularly happy about that...

What can I tell you that might help?
Really sorry to hear that mate. Assume garage not adjoined to the house and a garage block somewhere?

Don’t leave the keys in it, the insurance company might not pay out.

Same here with my '63 plate 1200LC stolen. Previous 1200LC insurance was £600 FC, replacement had a higher value - £3k, and new insurance was £1,600. When that bike was written off in a no fault claim the replacement 1250 cost £2,200 - overall it possibly cost me more to claim than just write it off.

Declaring it for 5 years cost a lot when declaring for both bike and car.

My mate had his stolen a few weeks back, they cut a hole in his garage door to reach in and unlock it. And even with the house alarm going off they just wheeled it away, surprisingly they left his Multistrada behind!!. My mate was away at the time, but the Tracker notified him where it was and the police recovered it within 24hours and it was in the local dealer being repaired last I heard. I’ve since added extra locks to my garage door and will be upping the workshop door to similar spec asap, and I’m thinking off adding a thick piece of ply glued to the back of the door around the lock which should slow down a mini grinder from cutting through that easy as they tend to burn wood more than cut it. Not a big difference but maybe enough to slow the bastards down. I’ve added a Tracker to my new Tenere but not the expensive Datatool one like my mate had, but it is monitored, but only time, and a theft, will tell if it works. Gonna glue an Apple tag inside the airbox too, not sure how it’ll take the potential heat but we’ll see. Oh and I’ve had to commit to locking both Tenere’s with the Almax chains and Abus Granite locks too on my new policy.

Insurance is an odd fish.I had a major no fault accident on my bike back in 2022.I sold my 16 plate RT because I couldn't ride it anymore and replaced it this year with a 24 plate GSA1250. RT was £300 odd quid and the GS was £450,it never effected my Sprinter camper insurance at all(declared)My after care alone cost his insurance company north of 400k. When they ask me the costs of the accident i can't tell them because I don't honestly know, but with my compo, medical care and solicitor, it will be around a million.

I like the idea of a bit of plywood inside the garage door.

Maybe something like the stuff they put in chainsaw trousers would be even better.

I was being sarcastic! I definitely wouldn’t recommend leaving your keys in the bike if you need to claim off your insurance…🙄

Not sure how the insurance would react if they found out, but it seems the worst damage that can happen from a theft is the forcing of the steering lock. Tends to feck the frame making it a write off even when little else is wrong. Makes you wonder if you’re better leaving the steering lock off and going with extra chains and padlocks, especially if you have a Tracker fitted.

I never use steering lock for just that reason.

If they try and steal it and get interrupted post steering lock you’re still in trouble.

I was about to buy a R1200LC off here, I was aware that it had a broken keyless steering lock (following an attempted theft), and was all good until he had a quote to repair the broken lock. it was over £1000 - 6 years ago...

I never use mine.
