Hi,

My '04 R12GS starter seems to take a second to disengage when starting from cold, making a slightly nasty noise. Warm starting - no problem. Actual starting is fine.

Took starter off, cleaned and sprayed a drop of wd40 on the shaft under the pinion, was ok for a short while but noise soon came back.

What is the best lubricant to use which will not get flung off into clutch and which will not get filled with crap? Or does it have to be left clean and dry?

Thanks guys, I have now smathered it with Optimol Paste White T, let's see.

my prediction: greasy bits will get covered in clutch/starter debris & stop working again.

i never lube those bits.

Cookie,
my fear bazackly but needs must when the devil drives.
I only smathered the pinion teeth, and put a drop of 3in1 down the spindle.
Let's see.

Bin,
This is a long shot but try spraying some WD40 on the starter button switch gear and see does it help! Yours in hope.
