R1300 Bmw luggage

I sort of wanted to keep the central locking function and the lighting and the charging. Does aftermarket support it?

No, you won’t have central locking with any of the aftermarket options, maybe one day, who knows

I went aftermarket as I prefer top loaders for touring and also because they give more foot room for the pillion

It’s all a question of needs, wants and personal preferences

How much are people paying for the various and bags?, got an email from one dealer quoting £1075 with locks and inner bags, steep but expected.

After market frames etc - is than an insurance mod or accessory, has anyone spoke to their insurers? This does seem to suggest accessory with no mention on the frames, so not needing to be declared

To be honest I probably would have gone with the vario panniers if they were available, I've always liked how they work, not so much how the new ones look imo they don't suit the GS but i have a trip with my wife in June so couldn't take a chance they would arrive in time so I've ordered Wunderlich extreme 38ltr took a bit of a gamble with those as they're not available till mid May, Nippy Norman assures me they will be here (y)
The top box is a permanent fixture but I don't have the panniers permanently attached and hate scaffolding so the Wunderlich fittings seem the easiest to take on and off, I did look at the SW Motech option as they have quick release.
Downside is I now have a key for the bike a key for the Givi top case and a key for the panniers

I had a varios on my 1250 and I have to say I didn’t like the side loading really. I’ll have a ponder. No trips planned as yet so I can wait. Thanks for all your comments.

Me too, Unless you really have to have panniers for a big trip, better to wait, you already have the very nice discreet bmw mounts, BMW will fix them soon, so unless no option just wait. If like me probably 46 weeks of the year you don’t have panniers on anyway.
47 weeks

I’ve only done 200 miles but this gearbox is way better than my ‘old’ one (1250), btw before 600 miles is everyone using the clutch or the quick shifter or a combination? I never liked 1-2 quickshifter changes anyway but what’s the consensus on gear changes early doors? I quite like the whine.

Use whatever you like whenever you like. Be daring and try both with & without quick shifter :-) . 1-2 works fine with QS so long as you get into 2nd asap & without too many revs on.
No idea what QS has to do with luggage though.

RE SW-Motech GS 16-20L tank bag

Thinking this looks like a good option for a long tour but -

I've seen a few comments elsewhere saying that it's a good bag but that it's too wide unless set right back.
Issues with hitting handlebar switches -inc kill switch.

Anyone here have personal experience with this?
Thanks

Hi, I tried the SW Pro City WP 9 Litres, and it had to be set very far back to clear the bars; much too much in my view. The way it extended backwards so far with the tank not supporting it, made me wonder about the leverage on the tank ring - great bag, and SW have great products, just didn't seem to fit the 1300.
Maybe a better fit on the R1250GS?

I have the Pro City bag on mine and it really does need to be set back quite far to miss the bars on full lock, I've gone with the Wunderlich bar bag now just to keep essentials and will use the topbox and panniers for everything else

At my local dealer yesterday, panniers should be available in May, no guarantees when in May, but before the end of May. I think they also want my Topbox back at the same time to implement some kind of fix. (Not that I have had any problems with it over the last 2000 miles). My next big trip not until 1st July, so even if they run a little late should be all set🤞

Fingers crossed! I head to Greece on the bike on Sunday so I'm gonna be going with the Lone RIder panniers, Givi top box and the Wunderlich bar bag. I was tempted by the BMW luggage but kinda glad I swerved it now!

RE SW-Motech GS 16-20L tank bag. I bought one and have used it without a problem. It is set back to clear switches. I have bar risers fitted but I cannot see that making much difference. Very happy with the quality of the bag and that its position gives a clear view of the bikes TFT display.

Any chance of some more pics of the Shad setup please, my bike came with the Vario top box but haven’t decided on which luggage to go for yet.

I don’t want permanent scaffold on the bike so it limits my options but am thinking the Shad 3P system might work for me.

Pics on and off the bike (if you have the 3P system) would be a great help if you wouldn’t mind👍🏻
Here you go Gregd, a few images of the Shad setup, fitted today, including one of the panniers showing the expansion capability.

Looks fine with the bags in place, for me I couldn’t live with it when bags not on, so still waiting for BMW.

Good afternoon. If anyone has been waiting for the black Touratech pannier frames to arrive for their BMW R1300GS, we have just received a pallet full, and there are a few sets left after pre-orders.

week 17 recall for the vario top box falling off
week 20 recall for the vario panniers falling off

No "Recalls" I know of, I've had BMW panniers on since Jan and there's no chance if them "falling off", just the opposite, you may struggle to get them off if the sliders at the back are dirty. Waiting for the fix but it's not a recall.
