An interesting source for info.
Not sure how serious it is re panniers as I can't see anyway they would fall off so long as they put on correctly and the latch is locked.

We're not in the EU so must not apply:-) :-)

Me neither. I thought it strange that you can't take the key out of the pannier lock until you have locked them onto the bike but then realised this actually stops you putting the panniers on and not locking then to the bike.
Also my bike won't start if the key is still in the pannier as it's too far away for the keyless to recognise it. Again this stops you riding off without the pannier being locked on.
Even though I think the manual says to remove the key after raising the unlocking catch you can't. I wonder if there are different variants or the key locks have been fitted differently?.
 
Given up on the Varios, I rang parts again today to be advised another hold on them and they are unable to take orders :poop: Ive ordered Touratech Zega Evo, got fed up waiting !

They let me have a set of panniers a couple of weeks ago after mucho nagging since November 2023. Must have hit the sweet spot, got em now and they ain’t getting them back 👌

Something about they were letting them go out and now theres another recall for the new batch, so orders are back on hold. Make sure you keep your smalls in the top box!!!

That’s got a recall on it too 😵‍💫 they are awaiting the bits for the fix, luckily I do have an sw motech tankbag for me valuables 😜
 
I went to my main dealer to ask what’s happening about my panniers. I collected them new with the bike on March 4th and took them back four days later and I’ve not seen them since.
I was given a BMW Black Collection Tank/Tail bag combo as compensation to see me on until May/June “when we are expecting to hear something” they said.
Here we are in mid July, though the weather thinks it’s still March and no sign.
They are now saying it will be July 2025 before I get them back and BMW have agreed I can buy alternative panniers/rails up to the value of £900 and be fully reimbursed and still get my panniers next year.

Well even though it's a right cock up, at least they've done the right thing on the customer service side.
Free soft luggage, alternative panniers now and the stock items next year - seems a pretty good response to me.

For comparison I've been given the tank and tail bag, and have now been offered a full refund on the cost of the stock luggage I'd ordered - I'd already told the dealer that I had bought an alternative set.
But I've not had an offer of the original luggage for next year - so you've done a lot better than me.

But obviously everything working correctly as ordered would have been much better overall. (y)
 
I got tired of waiting and concerned i would be left missing out, lucky i went to rugged roads website and ordered when i did, as showing out of stock on some touratech zega pro again, but they still have a few options..

Wonder how a supposed giant like bmw can get the design and manufacture of a few bits of plastic so wrong, speaking to dealer today they said there's been a problem with them flipping open, and as above all sales of the side panniers on hold till July 2025

The luggage is made by Touratech, I believe it’s the first plastic luggage they’ve developed

Maybe Givi or Shad would have been a better choice of supplier :nenau

Fitted my luggage today and a headlight guard bit of a pain but no lt especially complicated worst bit was removing the vario brackets and saving the wires. Beak was easier to remove than i thought it would be.IMG_6631.jpegIMG_6630.jpegIMG_6629.jpegIMG_6628.jpeg
 
My panniers wouldn't come off (I got to the point of using enough lifting force to almost get the back wheel off the ground....). The bike was delivered with them on, but I was never able to remove them. What they did do was not lock and then pop open on a country lane. So the cover fell open, smashed my wife's birthday present that fell out and then ripped the pannier cover off on the embankment (narrow lane). 250 miles in.....

BMW accepted they'd change the panniers (this was March, now July and bike and panniers all paid for in 2023 launch weekend), but just been told they are all being taken back (the panniers). And that sometime in 2025 I might get some new ones (as above). I have simply said, sort out a refund on the panniers - though thinking about it, I will also lose the central locking, which I paid for as part of the comfort pack. So I think I will be saying to them I want refunding for the top box (which has never actually been supplied to me (it's sat at dealer who said they really didn't want to fit it), the panniers AND the cost of the comfort pack (as it's the only way to buy central locking). That's nearly £2K I'd guess.

Let's see what BMW's view is
