R1300RS Performance with panniers.

My vote for the blue and red version, followed by the blue one - Not that it matters, it's your bike!

And with red. I dont quite have the correct colour of red. And I dont want to buy a full roll of vinyl so for now this will have to do.

I like it plain white. But I will use it with the red and blue stripes for a while and see if it grows on me.

red and white. I would stop them a similar distance from the end of the panel and allow white on all edges (bit like the bike panels).

All views and options welcome. Its easy to keep looking at it and lose touch a bit then get carried away.

Yes. I like the red and blue but theres something just not quite clicking. And I wasnt sure what i is. Possibly thats it. Because the red is going too far to the end.

Thanks guys for the input. I appreciate it.

I personally like the look of that scheme.

I'm on the brink of buying the 1300RS... currently umming and ahhing over spec, low miles 2025 or new from the showroom (don't think my patience could cope with 8 to 10 week lead time on factory orders).

Local dealer (UK) says he's sure BMW are working on a solution to allow for a touring pack for the 'Performance' spec RS - anyone shed more light on that?

TIA

All the parts are available to convert the Sport version to accept panniers, it's the same with the S1000XR and the M1000XR, all the parts can be had from BMW to fit panniers to the RS & MXR. for the MXR its about £600 for the individual parts at retail prices but some BMW dealers are offering a special deal on the parts required as a package if you're buying the panniers as well.

Yes exactly. The panniers can be fitted. It needs some parts changed to convert it. For example the pillion peg hangers are different as they have an extra tab to hold the bottom pof the pannier case etc. And it all needs coded to allow the remote central locking to work with the key fob etc. But its all doable. I read in a YouTube comment recently that the bike can now be configured with touring pack and luggage on the BMW site.

I suppose it all comes down to if you want a Performance model. All the other bikes can be specced with touring packs no issues. Its only the performance bike that needs the changes.

I stopped on my way home from work and made a quick video to show the panniers and install etc.

I set the video to private so it'll only work on this link.

Let me know if there's anything else you'd like to see on it.

Nice job getting those panniers fitting and painted. It came out really nice and tastefully done ... But I still wonder if the rear triangle of the 1300 was meant to have luggage on it. Sometime I'll have to check the luxurie edition and how it's mounts panniers. Right now the RT seems the way to go on the 1300 bikes for those that want full touring capable but still well within the sport tourer class. If you live in Spain or Germany then the extra top end of the 1300 does seem usable, and even desirable ...
I'm glad I bought my 1250RS with all the stuff for it, full panniers and top box, all the 719 stuff and the fancy wheels .... Sorry I know this is the 1300RS forum but I just don't care that much, like splitting hairs truly .....

Yes, from the rear 1/4 area the bike looms stubby with luggage. I dont ride with it daily. Only if I'm going somewhere and need to leave my jacket and helmet. Or collecting something etc.

The white and red are on the panniers is just vinyl wrap. It peels off early.

I like the RS because, especially the Performance model, its firmly at the sports end of touring. On Dynamic Pro, manually change the damping and TC etc. It really comes alive . But on Road mode, and back off the damping to -2 its comfortable and soft but beautifully controlled.

For me its the midrange I find strong. 4-7k. Rather than top end. But yes i agree. The 1250 is also good. Not a night and day difference between them. Just some small refinements etc. If I had a late model 1250 I'm not sure a change to the 1300 is enough to match the price difference. But I think I posted this before but- the price of a low KM 2022 1250RS here wasnt massively cheaper than a new 1300.

I do like the 1300 719 in grey. I almost bought one. But I hesitated as the new price was high and looking at the display bike i was paying for billet pack that I want too fussed about. I liked the 719 colour and bike but not to pay for machined engine covers and levers etc. Then this Performance came up with the panniers so did the deal as it was year end and they were pushing to hit targets so got a good deal.

Genuinely. There are times I absolutely love it. Literally the perfect all round bike. 300km days but can still play in the hills and it handles and feels good in Dynamic Pro. But can ride home with music playing, heated seat and grips, cruise on and Road mode plushness. Headlights light up the road like the sun. Cornering light are brilliant when its dark with no street lights.

But I also took my bosses old 600 Bandit out for 20mins. Cheap Quil end can etc. And thought- why do I have a bike 10x the price of this .

Overall. Happy with the RS. For example I'm going to Jerez to watch MotoGP next month. 5 hour round trip and actually looking forward to it.

When I bought the 2022 RS I have, I was able to choose the color and get any 719 stuff and the fancy wheels, which are still cast but have some machining on them. I had been looking at harleys (expensive) and when I looked at the bmws I thought ...oh I can just buy all that stuff and I did. I did choose the red frame and white bike.
And that is how that happened ...
It could use some highlighting with wraps though... there is a lot of plain white on the bike .... But I do like your machine it is very nice and has some places for practical things, looks very good ....

This was the bike i wanted. I'd wanted an R1250RS in white and red for 2 years. But it was over €16k! And for €4k more i could get the new bike.

The selling garage just would not move or negotiate on price. Even when it wouldn't start because the battery was dead.

yep that is it!
With the 719 valve covers the crash bars don't tend to fit, unless an expensive adapter kit is bought. I would post a pic of mine but I don't have the image hosting thing set up ...
Another thing interesting is usually when you go to crash bars, you usually have to ditch the fairings under the engine. I bought some stainless crash bars for mine then found out the standard RT wunderlich crash bars don't fit over the 719 valve covers ... you win some and lose some ....

It would be good to have a list of all the required additional parts required for fitting of the touring kit to the 'Performance' spec RS.
Do you have an invoice showing part descriptions and/or part numbers?
If not I wonder if you Dealer would be willing to provide the details?

Thanks for your vid above 👍

No unfortunately the bike came ready to go. They installed it themselves. The salesman did say it was a bit of a challenge in places. But i think he meant coding and changing the data card spec at the factory servers to allow the light and locking to work.

It was BMW in Burgos. But from reading some YouTube comments I believe there are some UK dealers wirh the panniers also retro fitted so the UK sites also know how to do it and will have prices etc.

It'll just be a case of calling a decent dealer and asking for a quote. Show them my video if you need to. I read somewhere the Performance can be specced on the configuratior now with luggage?

BMW Burgos told me the reason it initially wasnt an option is because of high speed stability. The Performance is 10mm higher and has different base sag in the electric suspension and geometry due to this. BMW had told them if the panniers were loaded to max capacity then bike was on a V Max high speed run. It may not be as stable as the other models. Just overkill in my opinion. The panniers are rated to 15kg per side. I think if anyone has 30kg luggage and does a high speed run they'd surely be aware the bike will react differently!

But also. It makes no sense. Because under the seat there is a sticker stating max speed with luggage is 150kph or something. So instant get out of jail card for manufacturer.

There are a few onboard test videos showing the bike V max at 256kph with was 249kph on gps. Which i think is 155 in mph? So maybe at that speed 10mm and maybe if the bike has a little more rear ride height due to preload at those speeds it will cause a weave. I believe the panniers on the new Multistrada are loose and move to counteract this at high speeds.

'Decent dealer' ..........hmmm, not so common in the uk - especially ones willing to go against BMW doctrine ;-)

No, the Configurator still doesn't allow the Touring Pack with the Performance spec....
