Hello fellow airheads :D

Well after a recent loss of my well loved HP2 and Jaqhama's BumbleBee with the help of Steptoe found this little gem of a bike recently.

Saw it posted in the airhead section and phoned Steptoe immediately. Endured two hours of Saturday morning traffic hell through London to go and look at the bike and sold the moment I saw it. The chap who it belonged to lives in France so couple of calls and some negotiation and deal struck and bike collected with the ever so helpful Chad as always!

1986 R80 G/S Paris Dakar

The chap has redone everything on the bike two years ago from the frame to the motor and wheels. He rode it home about 18km's and due to financial difficulties had to sell it now.

Needs some cosmetic attention on bits and pieces but nothing major as I have a bag full of stainless steel nuts and not afraid to use it :D

I need to fit indicators, mirrors and do something with the enduro exhaust as they will never pass roadworthy. Strip and clean the carbs to get the old petrol out then she should be ready to roll.

The previous owner fitted a brand new clock as well and it still shows the 18km’s he did home two years ago :eek

Awaiting the documents but Siebenrock 1000cc kit fitted by the looks of it and WP rear suspension. The original single PD seat and rack will be with me in August when he returns to the UK. So simplistic really the original HP1 :bow

Cosmetic wise I just need to get in there with a good wollop of elbow grease and some touch up paint

It will definitely need to get a different tyre on the back something more nobblier so I can test out the WP shock

My good buddie Lootch popped by the other night and I showed him how I am going to ride the bike offroad :blast

And of course my funky superman move when I go over jumps……or would that be the handlebars

Yesterday did a quick trip in the direction of Oxfordshire to pick up some WP front suspension and wheels. Another great find by Thunder relayed back to me via Stormforce and Chad who organised to get it bought on ebay whilst I was offline -- top blokes the lot of you :clap :clap

As happy as a little kid with a gob full of chocolate whilst mommy is at work and daddy is in charge :D

All of this for £250!?! (Except the baby he is priceless)

More to follow.....so many airheads so little time :mmmm :mmmm

Haha, did you get those WP forks from the chap that was selling the HPN tank on ebay recently?

I emailed him about them and he said that they had already been spoken for..

Does it have custom made triple clamps, or has the stem just been shortened to fit the Beemer?

Good to see that your enjoying your new ride anyway!

All the best :thumb

Indeed the same chap. The stem was modified to fit and everthing is off a KTM of some sort :thumb2

As for riding haven't "enjoyed" it yet as it needs to be MOT'd and taxed :beerjug:

I think we need to know who bought that carpet:rob

I to was after that bike ( I doubt the French would trust a scouser:( )....good luck with the re-build:thumb2

Cracking buy...they don't come up often like this :)

Interesting. Had the G/S that they came off had the swinging arm extended as well or did he have the forks chopped?

Are you planning on reinforcing the frame as well once you've nailed them on?

Cheers

If your fitting bigger and longer forks, you really should strenghten the frame, they tend to break around the headstock if you don't.

Don't know what the chap did to his bike, can phone him tomorrow. If the frame needs reinforcing then it will be done :thumb2

Very nice bike.:thumb

If you are swapping out the KPH speedo for an MPH one, let me know. I would be interested in doing a deal to relieve you of the burden of storing yours.:augie

Wear well.

Cleaned out the carbs last night, put some fresh fuel in the tank and 3rd turn it fired up.......like a BEAST :D :D

It sounds freakin awesome with those pipes on and think it needs a good run. Now that it started I can focus on the smaller things to get it MOT'd like the indicators etc.

I have a feeling this bike is going to be really awesome and could not wipe the silly grin of my face when it fired up last night :beerjug:

Told you it was a "guddan" - :thumb

Indeed mate it needs a bit of tlc here and there but overall awesome. Found the cause of the light that came on when you connect the battery. Diode board is fried and that flimsy wire from the stator to the diode board was basically burnt through and earthing everywhere. Replaced the wire and will order another diode board tomorrow :thumb2

this is going to be a sweeeeeeet bike when finished

It's already a sweet bike just as it is, it is going to be like SUPER SWEET :D

Check out the Thunderchild Diode board rather than the OE, gets excellent feedback :thumb

Been looking at that, just saw that Motorworks also do a "heavy duty" board for the same amount although quicker to get here I would assume. As with all things just wonder if the current board lasted since 1985 how bad can it be :D

I have Thunderchild boards and bigger output regulators on both me airheads and they seem to work fab - no problems in 9 thou miles
and they were delivered pretty quick as I remember - from San Diego :D
HTHY :thumb2
