hi ,my rocking horse has poohed again

I have some polyfilla on my rare r80g/s pd tank.
also there is rust inside.
whats the best way to remove the filler? screwdriver ,scraper?

to deal with rust i have read about those petseal type treaments .what would you use?are they any good or is there some sort of inside beadbalst you can get done?

if you take the filler out, won't you just have to put some more back in, unless you plan on some expensive metalworking?

as for the rust, fill tank with gravel and shake until bored.

Rust = handful of sharp gravel + 1/2 liter of parafin, cover tap holes or cap them off. Remember to replace filler cap...
Then put
Flying down to Rio on and Cha Cha Cha.......using tank as Maraccas
Soon shifts all the crap, then use the petseal from the bloke in Walsall...

Removing filler, I'd use a soft rubber tipped drift from inside tank and shock most of it loose...................


Do a search for POR 15 as thats the tank sealer I've used [very successfully] in the past

all i can add...

having used petseal once - never again!
a disaster and YES i did follow the distructions properly - i've used similar in a past life and know it's..... foibles well.

why?
it goes off too easily / quickly when old stock - hence rapid hardening and what looks just like plastic dog turds stuck fast in yer tank.

for removing the rust - suggest a light weight chain (bog / bicycle / punk adornment type ) - much easier to get the feckin thing out of the tank after.
gravel is good - but trying to get the last few bits out afterwards will drive you nuts*

*you can use them too - but same problem

thanks so far. i did see another sealant somewhere,nore expensive than the petseal.
re the polyfilla. i think it is all it on the outside of the tank, around the tankbadge recess. tried to see the inside of the tank with a torch.
would be better if i can get a mirror on a stick or an endoscope!

somone has been trying to fill in the recess, to flatten of the tank.
when i get a pic all will be revealed

you don't actually say that the tank leaks. if it doesn't, i wouldn't put anything in it at all besides petrol. just clean the rust out.

I can recommend the POR15 tank sealant - sorted out the tank on our old Talbot camper. It would also be a flippin' sight easier to do on a bike tank (took two of us to lift the van tank) If you've got a decent amount of rust in the tank, then I'd be inclined to clean it out and use sealant anyway, even if it's not actually leaking (the rust will have eaten metal away and you could be just storing up a problem)

Be aware that if you try something else and it fails, then it'll probably stuff you for using another manufacturers product (like POR15).

I have used tank sealant from Silmid in the past, they are a uk based company that supply all kinds of stuff the one I used was for aircraft fuel tanks and worked really well.
