How much of my hard earned £ should I be willing to part with to get one of these rev counter pods. I know there pretty hard to find but found one in Germany. Ps how do I attach photos as images are always to large. Cheers

What possible use for a rev meter do you have on an old slug like an R80g/s? :D

They go for anything up to £150. Motobins were flogging some the other year that read twice what they should.

I've got one. Came with the bike. Looked at it yesterday for the first time in years, out of curiosity. Rarely do I get anywhere near the red line, but I was yesterday, so had a sneaky peak.

If you have the original speedo, you'll see the estimated maximum speed for each gear, signified by the 1 dot, 2 dots, 3 dots, (1st, 2nd, 3rd etc.) around the clock.

Oh, and Rob's correct, it's revolution meter, not a counter. :blagblah

Ha ha it goes alright but just doesn't stop very well. I get carried away because it handles OK and I like to ride it fast but then I nearly overshoot the odd corner. Just checked speedo and does have the white dots ( learn something new every time I ask a question on here) . Speedo is kmh which reads to high anyway. Bike is an 86 and has all the pd bits apart from clock and rev meter

That's easy to sort!

And probably cheaper than a Rev Meter.

I've just ordered an HE Brake kit from Boxer Supplies, which gives you a larger disk for better stopping. After 15 years of ownership, I've decided that I need a better front brake.

The PD ones may be different, do you have 2 disks or the potential for 2?

I have seen the rev meter (which is very scarce) go for £450 on ebay a couple of years ago.......and TBH you dont need it.

I have the HE 320 disc kit on my G/S - great upgrade. BTW no need to "upgrade" the brake hose to a stainless version - having extensivly tested the OEM and a stainless upgrade (HEL I think from memeory), the rubber OEM in much better, more feel, more progressive, easier at the lever. The stainless version is wooden, not terribly progressive and increases the lever effort a fair bit - plus the install is not as tidy as OEM.

i can get rev meter for £300 delivered so tempted .
fork leg has brackets on for caliper and hub looks like it just needs a disk bolted to it ,but i have just bought some new pads (gold fren gp5 compound for racing only) so will try them hopefully at weekend and already has steel braided hose

The wheel hub won't take another disc it will be too wide. You need a 2 fin front hub as your bike will have 3. I've heard it said that you can shave some off the hub to make them fit but I've never tried it?

cheers sounds like to much work i will try pads first then reprogram brain to go slower which will be hard as it has been stuck in fast forward for 30 years

I put a 320mm disc on mine with a 4 pot calliper from a k series and it works really well.

i must have one of them. it reads over 2K at tickover, but works ok as revs get higher.

You don't need all these fancy 4 pot calipers, you just need the right pads.

I've got a 4 pot to get rid of, the original caliper is better.

Mick I have a spare, just overhauled Rev Meter and a new pod, which you can have for a lot less than 300 quid. Was keeping it as a spare but getting to the age where I cant see myself needing a lot of my stash.
PM me if you are interested.

My bike came to me fitted with a 320 mm disk and a four pot , but when the four pot started drawing air I refitted the OEM two pot.
With EBC HH pads it actually works better than the four pot, and probably better than the four pot on my Funduro too.

Part of the reason for that is that the brake path has a bigger footprint with the original caliper than the 4 pot.

I shan't tell you the rest, it will only start an argument!

Mick, might be better sending a PM on ADV rider, cant get things to happen on this site. Only clocks I have are 60 mm, Smiths a Kienzle, both non waterproof from a car.
