R80gs arround the world

I just made the commitment to join a group of guys riding to china where they plan to split and go in different directions. We leave in February and I'm the only one on a BMW so am looking for advice on which spare parts people think I should be taking with me. Originally the bike was an r100gs but now has an 80 instead.
I'm still looking for someone in Yorkshire who could help me get my woefully mechanical skills up to scratch. Any advice on mechanical logistics and planning the trip would be very welcome.

Consider adding a diode board, rectifier and bean can to your spares list, of course thats if your bikes standard in the electrical department.

For those with short memories
Oggy is the fella who bought his bike and rode it straight to the Airhead weekend do, stopping the night in a hedgerow when he ran out of fuel on the way..

He's got the balls to do this trip, anyone riding his first ever big bike the day he picked it up, on TKC's in the weather we had that weekend has got the right spirit...
Handled a lot better when he left for Leeds with new Tourances on the Sunday tho'

Largest bike he'd been on prior to the Friday he picked it up was a 125

My local dealership have been good enough to let me use there workshop and talk me through what I might need in the way of spares, tools and know how. Very grateful, would name drop but not sure its appropriate.

Gentlemen's wee-kend certainly was a baptism of fire (or is that water). Thanks again for what was a very memorable event (just wish I could remember it for the cider) if you're doing it again next year I'd thoroughly recommend it.

Just remember to stay off the cider and I'm sure you'll be OK. Never seen anyone take so long to sober up the following morning.

Keep the bike standard - Simplicity is the key. So any problems you may have will be understood by all and anyone else who's worked on BMW's. Plus parts will be readily available anywhere in the world. And if you should bump into another airhead GS in any part of the world the parts will be interchangable

Take a spare rotor, diode board and regulator.

And two gearbox detent springs.

Don't forget to take an allen bolt for removing the rotor dunno the size but all the airhead fans will know, good luck on the trip don't let any armchair / jealous types talk you out of it I had all that before my jolly jaunt in 2007.
