Hallo again Oggy !!
For those with short memories
Oggy is the fella who bought his bike and rode it straight to the Airhead weekend do, stopping the night in a hedgerow when he ran out of fuel on the way..

He's got the balls to do this trip, anyone riding his first ever big bike the day he picked it up, on TKC's in the weather we had that weekend has got the right spirit...
Handled a lot better when he left for Leeds with new Tourances on the Sunday tho'

Largest bike he'd been on prior to the Friday he picked it up was a 125

A mate and I went to Goa on our r100gs's and the only things required out of the shed loads of mods we did were:
Fork seal, starter motors, tubeless puncture repair (x2) and miscellaneous nuts, bolts, screws and washers for those that vibrated out or were shook loose by the "roads" and bulbs, (tail).

I reckon its because of the pre-trip strip and re-build to find anything that might fail - electric contacts, new battery. Both our starter motors failed, but that and one puncture was the only failures I suffered. The rest were on my mates bike - including needing a new front caliper.

We both put in grease nipple'd shafts and had no problems.

Nice trip you are planning but would not go with more than 1 other.

You wont actually get into China with your bike unless you have started the ball rolling 3 months in advance and paid big bucks for the entry and big bucks for each and every day you are there. You need a guide. China is not some backward place you can grease the palm of the border police to get in.

Walk of shame

I backed out of this one after going for a ride out with a couple of the group. They did an overtake on a blind bend and forced a truck on to the verge in front of me. One of them also nearly had his home made side-cart on its side on more than one occasion and skidded across a junction. Didn't want to be there to pick up the peaces and my kahooners just weren't big enough.

Took the route Napoleon down to the Italian MotoGp instead not quite the same but still fun.

Just my tuppence worth but just as important as the spares you will need is the mechanical check before you go. Plenmty of attention here could save you using spares.

No shame there mate. I've ridden with people that I won't ride with again due to their being a liability.

Yep, pretty picky about who I ride with -'no dickheads' rule applies (except me of course ) it's safer that way.

Also get sick of fixing up poorly prepared bikes when the idea was to go for a ride. Had blokes turn up with half flat tyres, bugger all fuel, no tools, no idea etc.

Saw Mondo Enduro just and I must say the blokes there took the setbacks rather well.
