R80GS collector box.

I'm converting an R80 monolever into a sort of 'GS' and am thinking ahead to the exhaust system.
As the bike will be used purely on-road, I'd like to have an exhaust system whereby the silencer is below the gearbox, as per my R1100GS.
If I use a Keihan collector box without the silencer, is it excessively, ( as in obnoxiously), loud, or is the sound, (rather than noise!), considered acceptable.
Subject to replies, this may be an easier option than making a box from scratch.

It is SERIOUSLY loud without the silencer..and runs like a bag of poo as well !!

i have a r100/7 with a set of hollow pips on it and its loud and runs fine.
just want go thought a MOT so its up to u

Ummmm.......can I ask what ' hole pips' are?
