R90S project bike

so did the bloke i got it from, he actually said i need to see a doctor for paying that much (it was a grand but he gave me back £50 for petrol:comfort)
:thumby:

I'm picking fifty quid won't buy much petrol by the time that bike can make use of it...

Sorry, couldn't resist the straight line. Seriously, I raise my hat to you for being willing to get into that, and wish you good luck. I might well have done the same, the cost of the resto is going to make the difference between what you paid and 300 notes of little relevance, and when you've finished it'll really be yours.

Hey, one up the road here just sold for the equivalent of more than six thousand pounds. It was cosmetically rather nice, but had been parked up since the mid 1990's and had done nearly 100,000 miles so probably needed a bit more than a carb clean...

Anodising would be a bad idea. If you must paint it have a look at mikep's thread where he painted a swinging arm and bevel drive.
They can look great painted with the detail polished but it takes a lot of work.

It would be cheaper and far easier to give it an acid wash. I'm getting ready to do one on a scruffy bottom end I'm working on. I'll post some pics on a thread if your interested.

get the heads, front case and airbox off for vapour blasting, clean up the bottom end and paint the barrels and it will look a million dollars. Vapour blast the carbs and have them ultrasonic cleaned and you'll be nearly done :D

Looks like a 3 bottles of red bid to me :D

Good luck :)

Looks like a great project Peach. I look forward to seeing the build report and the finished article. Would you care to share your 6K build sheet - it would make for interesting reading. Good luck:thumb

For plus-gas, used it myself on my r80 gs after that spent 10 years in a barn. Not quite as bad a state as yours though.

Proff usually gives bloody good advice and vinegar and 3 in 1 will be cheaper - good luck with it and hope it turns out how you want it too :thumb2

Read somewhere that paraffin and ATF 50/50 was a very good penetrating oil. Anybody have any experience using it?

all this talk of penetrating oil :eek

have i missed something, or the engine mounting bolts actually stuck? :nenau

i dont think last nights wd40 did much , one was a bit tight , gentle hammer taps didnt work so socket on the other nut and tightened it up a bit freed it easily :friday
