I've just picked a bike I've wanted for a long time but only in the condition i could afford :blast

certainly room for improvement and not alot will happen for a while as its winter and ive got no shed and i need to devise a plan of attack :D

sorry no other pics at the minute as only just got it :thumb

caution the pictures in the following link may upset you, this is one very neglected motorcycle

That's how I like to buy them. Adds a lot more to the satisfaction than merely cleaning something up.

Biggest concern would be the state of the barrels and if you can get the engine out.

I've seen a lot worse than that..
As Rob says, getting the bolts out of the engine bottom should be your first job.
Barrels are pre nicasil so can be rebored..
Hardest part to find will be a original seat and nose fairing, although there are better than new copies around now :thumb

Check the rubber gaiter around speedo drive, if it's fucked, drain the g/box as it will probably be full of water...

I then refill with mixture of diesel and cheapo oil until I can get around to checking or stripping it [or send to Rob or Voyager :thumb]

Ready when you are :augie.

At that price you can afford to rebuild it and still be within the value of the bike (not like the heap of 'Panther' bits I'm currently tackling :blast).

I'd love one in Daytona Orange . . . But then I'd love a lot of bikes (is it worth a divorce though ).

Best of luck with it and keep the pictures coming :thumb :thumb.

Bob.

Ps it wasnt £300 far from it but was still what I thinks a good price considering its an early march 74 bike with matching numbers. (Thanks Suffolk Dave) . I guess I better get the wd40 out, it was . Looking forward to the weekend when ill be able to see it in day light. Lots to learn its the earliest bm ive owned by a good 10 years .the handle bar switches are wierd ?

I hope you didn't pay much more than £300, cos it will be an absolute money pit  good luck with the restoration, it will be hard without shelter to do it in, pics of your progress would be good :thumb2

Mr Peeping Tom, you are clearly completely and gloriously insane. I though that the price was in pence and was still steep at 300p.

Plus Gas dismantling fluid is a much better friend than WD40.

Put an 8 x 4 sheet of plywood on the dining room table and move it into the house, much warmer and brighter than the garden in winter:)

If the wife says she's leaving all the better, you have more time for your project:D You're going to need it.

What Packer says :thumb
WD40 is shite, Plus gas dismantling fluid is great, but for the 2 main bolts through engine, if seized use a mix of vinegar and 3in1 oil brushed on and left overnight..... can take upto a week, each bolt BUT no damage to castings :) I did a post of the way I've got stubborn bastards out, years ago for Bakerlonglegs when he dismantled his... Worked fine :)

+1

For plus-gas, used it myself on my r80 gs after that spent 10 years in a barn. Not quite as bad a state as yours though.

Proff usually gives bloody good advice and vinegar and 3 in 1 will be cheaper - good luck with it and hope it turns out how you want it too :thumb2

when your refurben a Bicke everry thing gets shot blasted any way but that one doese look licke it got stuck on the beach when the tide come inn ! then put in a barn !!!
I have a set of Headers that will du for that verry cheep if your ever interested and seats come up quite a lot on german ebay so if you ever need one of them i will keep my eye aut when the time is right jeh my sumo what I have just fineshed that was a state when I bought it everry thing had been hand painted JCB yellow but you would never no that now so just get it all sandblasted the frame and log book are worth 300 quide and I am shure you can salvage moor than that from it ;)

that'll certainly be a challenge, but well worth it in a few years that it may take you , what with no garage etc.
no garage usually means no or very few tools?

From my experience that is going to cost you more to make presentable than buying a nice one. Of course it's not all about the price though.

Bargain !
lol it would be if it was £300 it wasnt it was 4 figures :eek it was from the fenlands so i guess he saw me coming :D

cheers prof ill do that , do the engine bolts fuse to the casing then?

Take loads of pictures and write lots of stuff. I love these resto/rebuild threads. :)

:thumby:

i will do but doubt much will happen for a while as ive no where to do work. my small shed (7x5:rolleyes: will leaks) is full of stuff and i like my para gs under the lean to porch thing.

ive got quite a few tools in the shed but its still my biggest challage to date :eek
not sure where I'm going with it , I'm off on holiday next week so ill think about what to do with it in Eygpt :thumb2:Motomartin:Motomartin

i can see that but it is good fun doing it. I've done a para gs before , but it was all working and fairly ok when i started, this however is a different kettle of fish .

i know most people will think £950 is a lot i still think it was a good deal (for me !!:D)

see if anyone can find ANY R90S with matching numbers for under £2000.??

I've not seen one , i would think most people who want to restore one want a low cost starter bike as it will be stripped and every part cleaned, painted, cromed etc etc.
