Hi,

I have tried the search facility on the forum but cant find a conclusive answer.
I have recently bought a 2000 model R1150GS which is totally standard.
I have ordered a race can for it and wish to use this with the standard cat box.
My question is that after reading on the forum for a few hours i noticed the Steptoe cc plug mod and wondered if anyone knows if the bike has a map for running the standard cat with a race?
If so which connections do connect together? Or do i simply pull the existing cc plug out?

Sorry if this question has been covered before.

Regards

Garry

Remove the cc plug and replace with a resistor of 19332 ohms. (maplins part No 664902395) This replicates the air resistance of the standard exhaust can and will give a power boost of approximately 6.33 horsepowers.

Dream on...........

Using a 'race can' with the cat still fitted will be a waste of time (and money).

Its isnt if its the first step before i add a decat y piece in the coming months.

...Then I'd wait for the coming months & deal with it then. You won't get any significant difference until you ditch the cat.

No Can

You can run the GS with NO can or just a stubby pipe with the Cat fitted with no fueling changes, in fact it doesn't really make any difference to the noise either:D saves a load of weight though.

Hi Grizzly,

Thats exactly what i needed to know.
So i dont need to worry about fueling until i get a decat y piece......:beerjug:

Cheers

You should have bought the 'Y' piece first.. also, if you do any long distance riding, you may find (as I did) that your final setup will be too noisy.

Or as in my case and my mates Remus setup. You won't want to go any long distance with him. Certainly not behind him.

The silencer I have bought comes with a road legal baffle too so I guess if I do go down the route of getting y piece the noise shouldn't be too bad.
Or is the general opinion to go with a y piece with the stock can?
Or just leave the bike stock? Even though I don't like how quiet it is as it a pedestrian hazard lol

FWIW. Leave it as stock. Thats my choice on my bike. But its your bike so do as you wish. I have noisy bikes and quiet bikes. I prefer the GS to be quiet especially around some of the little villages I go through.

As long as the O2 sensor is still in place the fueling will constantly adjust to achieve 14.7-1 air fuel ratio whatever you do with the exhaust system.

"Race can". ....... "GS" .......

Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha.........:JB

I knew it didn't sound correct when I typed it lol.
It's a free flowing silencer then.
So the best thing would be to fit the can I have coming and enjoy the slight weight loss and just enjoy the bike ha ha.

The setup I prefered on my 1150 was originally, standard can and 'Y' piece. (I tried the Remus and 'Y' piece, too noisey)

Sound was quite good, and it ran well, it was only when I fitted a 'stubby' (to allow a full size pannier to be fitted), that I refitted the cat.

Just swapped my old Remus Genesis "race" can for this lovely little Venom beastie. Definitely a bit fruity :green gri

Only at tickover. Everything else is done from a series of fuel maps; that's why changing the cat code plug has an effect.

Mines come with a remus can and y piece, which was fitted days after the bike was new, and its pretty loud. I'm thinking of sticking the original can back on the y piece which is what I had on a previous near identical 1150.
But first I might try and see if a Scorpion Carbon can I have spare will fit, as I don't think its much heavier than the Remus, and its supposedly legal.
