I got my eyes tested now I can read my speedo and stick to the limit

Oh dear!! Looks like the Moral High Ground is going to be overflowing again with the "Peter Perfects". :)

I have thought about getting a Road Angel in the works van, got nicked again last week, that's twice this year, don't know what speed I was doing last week but earlier in the year I was 5mph over the limit & I suspect last week it's going to be pretty similar speed over the limit.

Anyway I gather these road angel are not waterproof, I was thinking about being able to use it in the van & on the bike, yesterday I found a flashing light/bleeper that can be connected to the road angel so that can be mounted somewhere out of the rain & have the light somewhere in the cockpit, how successfull are these, anyone know or use one.

:)

I have a Road Angel Compact on the Adv. They are pretty easy to make waterproof with some decent tape over the spare ports, if you mount them on the top of the binnacle under the screen. i mounted a little deflector behine it too, to keep the wind/rain blast off too. WARNING! Don't rely on the suction cup cradle to keep in in place - it will fall off! Only the wire kept mine from bouncing down the road at 50+ - I now use some super strength velcro to keep the cradle on the top of the binnacle, then the magnetic mount to keep the thing on board.

Warning 2. They are pretty out of date as they come out the box, mine was missing fixed cameras that have been in situ for at least a couple of months - download an update ASAP.

It works well, especially at night, when the screen goes red and flashes when you get near a camera. Less so in the day, when you have to rely on seeing it out of the corner of your eye, but you get used to it. Nice and easy to take on and off the bike.

I don't have the extra radar detector (£50), so don't know how good that is.

Personally I have a TomTom Rider on order (should be arriving this week) - you can put the speed cameras in as custom POI's using the PocketGPS Safety Camera Database ( http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/uksafetycameras.php ) and thats updated once a month which is usually more than adequate. TomTom also have a pay for update service that does a similar thing I think - not too certain as the car version we have here is the classic one that doesn't have the nice bluetooth connectivity.

Waterproof radar detectors I've not seen - not really interested in them myself, as if I'm caught speeding, I'm prepared to pay the pentalty - so far I've only ever been caught once by a fixed camera I didn't know existed (and it must have made a mint that day given I was in a stream of traffic all doing the same speed).

I'm actually getting the Rider (which is waterproof) for the road curve ahead view that the 3d view gives you - which is rather handy in the dark ;)

Snooper S6 is on special offer in Costco. Can't remember the price but it is good.

I have a Snooper S6R Neo in the car and I've also used it on my VFR. It's very good when you're in unfamiliar territory and navigating at the same time. (GATSOs in Belfast and innumerable Specs and Truvelos on Albion's flat and featureless plain.) The radar / laser detector unit is weatherproof but the head unit isn't. I didn't find that this caused and problems when mounted on the VFR, even in the worst Scottish monsoon......

The bike option might be an Inforad, its GPs based and warning is given by a bright Led on a short stalk, the colour of the Led and how its flashing tells you when your nearing a camera of some kind and if your over speed. Useful for those unable to read there Speedo :eek

Just £99.95, seems a bargain!

Got an Origin b2 in the car - but they don't do a kit for the bike!

Otherwise very impressed so far. :thumb

Have been browsing these myself. I think the new Road Angel has an earpiece socket and might repeat might be able to be routed thru autocom. I understand that all forces no onger use radar anymore, they all use hand held laser which apparently is very difficult to lock on to bikess. I want one to remind me/alert me that I am approaching a lower speed area! I was told that they supply a bike 'kit' for the new road angel if that helps at all

The Compact certainly does. I haven't bothered wiring it in to the audio though - I find that the flashing red screen is enough, having mounted the unit on the top of the dash, between dash and screen.
