No one seems to have mentioned just how brilliant these new radially mounted Brembo Monobloc brakes are, so thought I'd better.... "They are totally the dogs danglies" :D

Yes I agree ,they are pretty damn good,

I'm also impressed with those new next tyres, I had to dig a flint out of the rear yesterday :blast It was 6 or 7 mil long, in the centre, pleased I checked them out.

Yep. Agree with you there!!

I'm just hoping the pad life is as good.

Just been in the garage to check - definitely Monoblocs.

Brakes are defo better. Have noticed a tendency for the rear end to wag when braking really hard which I didn't experience with the TC.

The weight is more biased towards the front on the LC which might explain.

Whatever they are, they are no where near as good as the ones fitted to the 1150. I can reduce speed sensibly and safely from 50 to 30 on my 1150 without the associated instability that doubtless will be induced on the new LC with such an application of brakes. You can also get 130,000 miles from a set of pads on the 1150 with careful use, and without compromising the usual 178mpg by unplanned over braking.

The new Brembos fitted to the LC are ugly, too powerful and will cause steering stops to simply fall off the new LC frames like confetti. :rob

Does the brakes being mounted radially actually make any difference? I understood that race bikes do it so that it's easy to change the set up for difference size discs...

probably not but the one piece caliper is stronger and flexes less than the two piece ones.

So - What is it about the "radial" and "monobloc" design that is making your brakes so much better, do you think?

Its like Kera Nightly ( cant spell her name ) or the fat slage down the road , both do the same thing but one sooo much better and when you wake up in the morning,,,,,,,,,

A competitor the KTM 1190 states:
'Precise application, powerful and free from fading: More than adequate deceleration is ensured on the 1190 Adventure by Brembo brakes with the very finest components, such as 320 mm brake discs, radially mounted, four-piston fixed callipers and a radial hand pump. At the rear, the braking energy flows into a generously dimensioned 268 mm disc. And not to forget: everything supported by Bosch 9ME C-ABS.'

How does that compare with LC specs, I'm interested, not knocking the product?

Gone quiet, have I poured water on this thread ?:hide

No, they are just great brakes on the new bike - much better than my twin -cam, I'd rather not have the abs and semi linked fuctions but hasn't caused me a problem so far - they feel great in day to day use and are icredibly powerful, best brakes on a GS to date.

Does anyone really think that it is the "radial" or the "monobloc" feature that is making the brakes more powerful?

You'll probably find it's a smaller master cyl, or larger caliper pistons..........

I mean - really? How much flex do you reckon you get in a split caliper ?

"Radial" ? Looks like a "racer" - makes no difference on a GS.

Al:rolleyes:

It's probably a combination of things, monobloc, piston size, master and slave cylinder changes - it's called development, learning and progress, the end result is that they feel significantly better than my old twin-cam brakes.
