Raid fork protectors by Twalcom

Looks good.
But none of the adhesive stickers protect the lower part of the forks. Here's mine fitted

Those plastic protectors look really nice, but being so expensive, can you buy and fit anything to them, to prevent them getting damaged, by stones etc?

just be careful, if you fit them to an 1150 GSA they can "score" a line in to the blue fork stantions, so make sure you fit some adhesive backed foam padding along the top edge
i think the more you ride at speed the more the scoring takes place

I've just realised what you mean. I'm now worried that these will do the same on mine, as the wind is likely to move these back into the forks.
So my next question is how many people have these on their 1200's, and have you had the "scoring" as mentioned above? I've fitted them, but not ridden the bike since, so if they all score, I'll get them off before my next ride. I wouldn't want to mark the forks on my new bike.

I think cos they are meant for a 1200 the top lip clears the top of the fork that you're trying to protect and therefore it shouldn't happen but i cant be 100% sure of that

FFS, a protector that potentially damages your bike
Just use some of Humvee's style, thick decals or reflective tape
Use it on all my bikes over the years, they have never suffered a stonechip damaging the surface underneath
Even the offroad bikes take a real hammering and they never suffer
'Thickstuff' decals are more than adequate

anyone know a part no for gaitors for a 1150gs and if they are worth it?
I will replace my leaking fork seals in the next week or so and tempted if I can get something off the shelf to cover the silver bit

It doesn't clear the fork, and looks like the wind WILL push them into the forks once you get some speed up.
I've taken them off, so now need some plain black adhesive stickers. Humvee ones only come with their logo, but I need plain ones. Does anyone know where I can get plain ones for the 1200?
Go to your local B&Q Homebase etc and get some black "sticky backed plastic" in the best words from Blue Peter, and cut your own out

FFS, a protector that potentially damages your bike
they don't cause any "scoring" damage if you use the adhesive-backed foam i mentioned earlier in the post - the wind doesn't move them backwards "at speed" cos they are flush up against the Twatcom protectors
i'm really happy with mine now, now a bit of fine-tuning has been done

Exactly what I would do
My bikes' got more tape on them to stop things rubbing the paint too

DIY fork protectors
Tried the suggested black drainpipe method (KTM?) on my R1150GS.
The 2" pipe (B&Q) fits over the lower leg with a 10mm gap that can be hidden at the inside back.
However the brake mounting bolts rub the pipe/protector so it needs a cutaway to provide clearance. Only tried the offside and decided it was going to be so full of holes that the crud was going to get in and corrode the legs anyway, you just cannot see it!
Did not bother with the nearside as it would need bigger holes to clear the ABS ring.
The pipe/protector will stop the stones damaging the leg but they will need to be removed regularly to clean behind them.
I decided to clean the alloy bottoms and paint with smooth Hammerite instead.
