New cam chain tensioer sounds like the job for me.

In the photo of the old and new types, is the spring hidden inside the cap nut of the new type?

The spring is hidden inside the plunger, which cannot be opened. This new plunger also seems to have a check valve that controls its filling/unfilling, as illustrated in the following italian short report. See "Tenditori" here: Consigli (italian)

The quality of the contruction of this new tensioner is particularly good, and the tolerances seem to be very tight, which may explain why it is so expensive. I recommend working VERY cleanly when replacing it because any dirt will likely score it severely.

RATTLE - CURED? FINGERS X'D

I RE-CHECKED TAPPETS AND END FLOATS, AND FOUND THAT THE TAPPETS HAD TIGHTENED UP SLIGHTLY - READJUSTED!

OIL TYPE WAS A PLAYER! IT WAS SEMI-SYNTH 10/40 SINCE NEW, AND I HAVE DECIDED TO REVERT TO DUCKHAMS Q 20/50 MINERAL FOR AT LEAST THE RUNNING IN PERIOD. INITIAL RESULTS ARE GOOD - IT IS MUCH QUIETER BETWEEN 2500 AND 3700 RPM! AND ONLYT LIGHT VALVE TRAIN NOISE THROUGHOUT

CHEERS ANDY B :D
