Got a new to me 2010 camhead on 32,000 miles which occasionally rattles like stink for a few seconds immediately after start up. Sounds like a chain rattling.

If I turn it off and start it again straight away doesn't do it but if I leave it for an hour or so it will.

Have tried changing oil from 15/50 synth to 20/50 but no change. Funny thing is it doesn't do it all the time. Some mornings quiet as anything.

I've also got an 1150 that did the same thing. I changed the LHS tensioner which solved the problem.

But this is the cam head engine and I thought they solved that problem with re-designed cam chain tensioners.

Anybody got any thoughts or is it "they all do that sir"??

Your symptoms described would suggest that oil is draining from the tensioner.

is it the same weather its on side or center stand

Sorry Fizzer just realised I misread you. I never leave it on the side stand for any length of time so not sure if it would be worse. Might try that as I've just looked in Haynes and see that tensioner is in more or less same place as 1150 so oil could drain out of it. But I thought that problem was sorted years before.

I just wondered if anybody else had same thing on a camhead.
