Hope someone has an idea with this, my gs just started rattling/knocking when decelerating and pulling in the clutch, it feels like it coming from the rear, under power all is good. I removed the rear bevel box, slight play in the paralever bearings. The box itself has only got about 5k on it and no free play, rear uj no freeplay. Just trying to get the driveshaft out and see what the top uj is like. Anyone had similar problems?

My rattle is from the middle, next to the right hand side cylinder, where it meets the big lump in the middle!

Hi, I am new to this forum but I have the same rattle I think . I am told it may be whats called "TICKER KILLER". it is a problem with the butterfly shaft in the throttle body. There is a DIY kit to be had £41 from motorworks. Apparently this affects the right throttle in most cases. High millage bikes suffer most. I have an R1200gs 2004 with 50,000+.
Mine is an 1150 with 110,000 - not been a problem though! Still goes well enough fo rme, probably a dog in the eys of the Young Chargers!
You can rebuild them. The UJ's are available in either the sealed for life or with removable grease nipples types. I rebuilt mine with greasable UJ's, but they were not cheep, coming in at about £60 per UJ. The other problem is securing them, as the originals a staked in. There are companies out there who will overhaul your drive shaft. The UJ's are spot welded to retain them in position.
