This lovely new LC has definitely got the old guard rattled, probably because all their knowledge gained over the years is no longer relevant, they are no longer the wise old men who like to educate the newcomers in the 'ways of the boxer' - they will come round to the ways of the Comrades Using New Technology eventually, they just need time to adapt, so let's not be too harsh on them.

Thanks, had a quick look - not very exciting, something wrong with the engine guy is getting a new one, but I guess there will be plenty of weirdos who know nothing about manufacturing speculating all kinds of crap as usual

Reading through the thread on ADV, customer service appears to be a little lacking " in the land of the free". Lets hope this is a one off or a manufacturing" batch" problem.

I guess that BMW want it back in one piece so that they can investigate - we'd do the same with our products - if some one has messed about with it before you get it back then it can make it impossible to determine what the real problem is.

Sorry, kind of got the idea the OP was just a starter for 10, the rest was a free for all, allowing the old guard to come in and tell us their road side repair stories, how this new bike is not in true keeping and what it was like befor colour telly!

I'm relatively new here.. Will follow protocol for now on!

ahh but not the starter itself at fault it was the associated gears and sprag inside the engine,hence the new assembly.

I know . Had a starter sprag go on a Tiger 900 = £1000 , on a KTM 950 fixed under warranty . The New one does seem more complex/ more moving parts = more likely some will go bang at some point .

As this thread is a piss take do you feel that in some ways the new bike is more dealer dependent than it older relatives? This ain't knocking the new bike, if you like well ride it and enjoy it. But so far we have:-

Dealer support to change the date format? come on FFS what's that about?

The amount of effort required to remove the filler neck insert?

The battery I believe is now hidden under a panel which probably needs torx scewdrivers to remove? This last one is the one that gets me most, we have all done it, run a battery down by mistake ,easily done. But having to take side panels of the bike off to get your jump leads on? is BMW taking the piss.
